I grew up with the Legend of Boggy Creek. It scared the be-Jesus out of me so when I found out that Fouke was so close to where my boyfriend and I travel to and from Texas, we added it to our list of "Fun Roadside Attractions To Visit". We finally were able to stop in October 2014. I was pretty disappointed in the displays, a cardboard cut-out of the Jack's Link Jerky Sasquatch with a hole to stick your head through, for starters. It was tucked in a weird place, next to a stand up cooler and a walk way to what looked like a storage area, where you could barely get behind it and well, just looked kinda tacky. The wall painting and 'walk in' swamp display where you could also have a picture taken was very well done, but, it looked an awful lot like that sweaty Big Foot from "Harry and the Henderson's" not the violent, scary monster it's supposed to be. As for souvenirs, the pickings were slim. There was a 1/2 wall rack of t-shirts but sizes and styles were limited and a lot of them weren't even Boggy Creek related. They had your typical home-grown trinkets of little wooden cut out 'monsters' standing on another piece of wood, shot glasses, key chains, books, postcards and little bottles that contain water from the creek. It was 'cute' in a small town, tacky sort of way, (Not knocking small towns here, folks. I grew up in a town with a population of less than 2000) but so much more could have been done with the space than is being done. It just all seemed rather unorganized and like the owners really didn't take too much pride in it at all. Stop or not? I'm glad we stopped. It was a fun, little 1/2 hour detour and we got some funny pictures standing in the larger metal display over by the post office. I just wish there had been something more, maybe I was hoping for it to be more of a museum type thing with better pictures and posters/explanations and maybe a map showing where the events supposedly happened in relationship to where we were.
drove over an hour out of my way to pick up some Fouke Monster goodies! as always, the people are very friendly, and they have a great selection of Fouke Mounster and The Legend of Boggy Creek souvenirs.
We was looking for something to do and my 10 year old said she would like to go see the Boggy Creek Monster. so we did she had fun in the store the lady that worked in the store was very nice .my daughter love all the newspaper stores .On the way home she was on her iPod reading all about it .Is not a lot but it was something she loved .
I was traveling through the area, so I decided to make a pit stop at the Monster Mart. I was kinda disappointed. The selection of souvenirs were lacking and the museum was run-down. They did have a neat painting of the monster.
After seeing a story about the Fouke Monster on TV, my kids were obsessed with finding him since we live a few hours away. So off we went in search of the monster. We found this store easily enough and were so excited to be there. Upon entering, I was sad to see that the museum part of the store was so run down and unattended. The girl checking us out could care less why we were there and I got the feeling she didn't like outsiders. Which is fine, but maybe don't work at a tourist destination? The kids and I took lots of pictures and picked up a few souvenirs and tshirts, plus the original movie. Afterwards, we drove the area trying to call to the monster and see him but no luck. It would be nice if the store offered a map for sale where he is most often seen so people can drive by those spots. We would have bought several!
This little store is the unofficial "home" the Fouke Monster made famous in the film, "Legend of Boggy Creek". You can find a mini museum, a mural and, across the street, the best photo op in Arkansas. The store sells just about everything and has a good selection of Fouke Monster tshirts and souvenirs. I thought it was great fun!
Fun, quick stop. The owners of Monster Mart were more than happy to share their towns story.
