birthplace of william jefferson clinton

As of today they show a picture of a house saying it is the birthplace of William Jefferson Clinton. That is not the house you will see. Not sure if this house exists. We did see the house but missed it and had to be redirected to it. There is a large sign on the highway pointing to it but it appears they are directing you to turn left on the highway..Interesting tour and well done by the park staff. We toured with one other visitor. When we arrived at the visitor center which is another house next door we only had to wait about 10 minutes before the tour started. Nice restrooms on the property..

Although none of the furniture is authentic, it is period and gives the visitor a sense of what it might have looked like. Very interesting facts shared by the staff. A very interesting experience. Photos allowed.

They have done a great job of presenting the first childhood home of William Jefferson Blythe, 42nd President of the United States. Although none of the contents are from the family, they are of the period and ring true with we who are also of the period.The gentleman at the reception and the lady who gave the tour were very engaged with the patrons. The tour (every half hour, I think) was very informative and gave a perspective of life at this home. Bill moved from this house to another after his mother remarried, then to Hot Springs, all when he was still very young. It is interesting that two of his kindergarten classmates later married with him and remained with him through his Presidency. Also interesting is that preacher and Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee also lived 5 blocks away (309 East Second Street - now gone) and preached across the street (Garrett Baptist).

Hidden back off of the main road into Hope. You may miss it, if you're not looking. NPS Rangers were super friendly and helpful.

Small national historic monument. We almost missed it! Follow the signs, but look left IMMEDIATELY after driving under the railroad bridge. Stopped in for a short time a got a private tour of the house - thank you Ranger Aaron Charles for a great tour. It took me back to my roots in the early fifties.

Great little out of the way slice of history. Enjoyed seeing all of the memorabilia from the early 1950's. Thanks to Aaron Charles for the outstanding tour. And it was free!

This is a fun place to visit no matter what your political views. You can see the classic four square house that was the childhood home of a United States president and learn about the unique history of the area.

We stopped in Hope for a short break and decided to do the tour of the former US President William Clinton’s boyhood home. We didn’t have any trouble finding the visitor centre (huge sign out the front) located on W Division Street. House is adjacent, around the corner on Hervey St. While there is no sign on the house itself, across the road on Hervey St is (or at least now is) a tourist sign with an arrow pointing across to the house, can’t miss it. There is no parking on site, so you need to street park, best to do that in the side street, outside the visitor center if you can. The ranger was available to take us on a tour as soon as we arrived. The ranger was so polite and friendly and really gave an insight to the family and their values. Bill’s political career was not a focus on this tour, and that was ok by us. Bill lived here with his mother and grandparents for the first few years of his life. It’s a very modest 2 story home of a good working class family. The tour took no more than 20 mins but you could spend more time here if you wished. Well worth a visit and the tours are free.

We took a side trip to Hope when visiting Crater of Diamonds State Park which is about 40 miles away. It was nice seeing how President Bill Clinton started out and where he lived for the first few years of his life. The rangers were very knowledgeable and the tour through the house was very interesting. If you are close to Hope, Arkansas, it's well worth a stop.

The ranger who gave the house tour was very good, more like a conversation then a canned talk some docent might give. It's interesting to walk around in the home of a future president. The site itself needs work there is no parking lot and if you didn't know how to get there you might have a hard time finding it.

This was a side trip from a music trip to Clarksdale and the Mississippi but it added so much to the trip. Gives a really good understanding of Bill Clinton's early days and his thirst for education to allow him to grow. It is quite an emotive experience.

This was a planned stop this past summer during our vacation. Our group of nine, (5 Adults, 4 Children/Teens) were in a tour group of our own. The tour was really good and efficient. The visitors center has a lot of interesting information on President Clinton and his early childhood. The home was nicely furnished so users could identify with his childhood during that time period. You will not need more than 1.5 - 2 hrs to spend here. It was the perfect place for us to get out and stretch our legs before continuing to our next vacation stop.

The entire stop probably won't take you more than a hour but I still felt it worthwhile. Quick and efficient tour of the house, good tour guides. If you're going to Washington historic state park this is good to do afterwards. Also if you're taking the I-30 from Texas to or through Little Rock then it's on the way, why not take a quick break and check it out? Just park at the Atwoods at the cornet of south hervey and W 2nd, it's right there across the street, no worries. Recommended if you love National Parks or the man himself, or both.

This site is administered by the National Park Service and is free. Free guided tours of the home (furnished in period, not original to the home, but approved by Clinton's late mother), free junior ranger program or kids, and informational exhibits. Interesting way to spend one time if you're in the area or passing through.

We stopped here because it was the only other thing to do in the area besides the Crater of Diamonds State park and are sure glad that we did. The entire tour was FREE and very informative about Bill Clinton's early childhood. No politics were discussed or endorsed. Being that we are not Clinton fans we still found this National Park to be very enjoyable. If you have children be sure and ask for the free Junior Ranger packet.
