My grandsons love the Nature Center! A lot of hands on activities for them. Nice trails to walk and of course alligators, snakes and turtles to see!
As adults, this is the place we always bring the grandchildren when they are visiting. There's something for all ages to enjoy...from the youngest to the oldest. And, sometimes, we come out here, even when the grandkids are not in town.
Great place for taking a nature walk and checking out some amazing animals that are from the area. A favorite part of mine was the video. You get to feel what is happening.
Excellent choice for learning. Hands on activities, displays, etc. A must for all families to see and learn together. Activities scheduled, according to weather, for the outside and lots to do on the inside. A very informative family learning.
Nestled just in the south edge of Jonesboro, AR is a wonderful respite from the rigors of driving through the area. The "Nature Center" is setting atop Crowley's Ridge hence the History of the area and the geological information is presented to the delight of young and old alike. A diorama of the "Ridge" is displayed as you enter the facility. Close inspection reveals the many attributes of the area along with the wildlife that call it home. Displays of many species of wild life are exhibited for education of our younger citizens. Down stairs is the learning center with demonstrations and materials to further educate. The auditorium holds a special presentation of the geological history of the area and demonstrates the greatest earthquake ever to hit the continental US. The surreal film and effects places you in the "mist" of the geological trauma of the region. As you wander outside, delight in the Nature trail with the many native plants and wildlife that inhabit the grounds. No matter what your interests, the "Nature Center" will surely make you visit a pleasurable success.
As soon as I walked in I knew it was going to be great. They model they had of the ridge, and the sounds made me feel like I was there. They nailed it. I've been roaming the woods on crowley's ridge all my life and the only thing missing was a live deer. It had plenty of neat stuff to look at and learn about.
First of all, its free! Had a great day with the kids exploring and learning about nature. Don't miss the movie, it is very informative and my kids loved that the wind blew and the seats rumbled along with the movie.
The Nature center has a lot to offer. As the name implies it is all about nature but it also has a film about the creation of Crowley's Ridge that is a must see.
easy to walk around, no charge admission. Good information about the area. Also has information there about surrounding areas and things to see
Exciting place to visit; a movie will introduce you to the history of the Arkansas. Many cases do contain snakes (!), the main room show several examples of local fauna, free entrance (wow!).I would have had more time to visit the surroundings; we should copy in Europe such method to show tourists (and residents) the beauty of our places.
The place is beautiful. So many trails and just perfect for an outting. I love the gift shop. We were given a gift from there of a coffee mug and it is the best mug I have EVER had. We have bought several as gifts and will visit again. If you get a chance please visit. You will be impressed.
We choose to visit the Nature Center basically as a time filler - boy we we wrong. This is a wonderful place! The exhibits were great and the movie was super good. Kids will love this place. As a want-to-be adult - I loved it, go for it...
I went to CRNC in August of this year. It was very hot but the deck was cool and lots to see. The inside of the nature center tells of natural occurrences and wildlife in this area. The static displays are very well done, informative, and colorful; (I DIDN'T LIKE THE LIVE RATTLESNAKE). The attendants were very courteous and informative.
The nature center is free and a great way to spend a couple of hours with your kids! Check out all 3 levels of the nature center and be sure and watch the short film with some neat side effects:) there is a trail up to the lookout tower and there is a trail that ties the nature center to craighead forest park. Some of the bird noise buttons etc do not work any longer:( a good place though!
The Crowley's Ridge Nature Center is located in Craighead Forest Park, a few miles south of the city of Jonesboro. The layout of the facility, both inside and out, is superb. There are plenty of walking/jogging trails around the site, some of them paved and some not. The interior displays are beautiful and do a good job of presenting the local flora and fauna. There are plenty of interactive displays for children (I enjoyed them, too). The hourly movie shows the history of Crowley's Ridge in a VERY GRAPHIC fashion--there's an earthquake in which the room shakes. i've seen very young children get scared and have to be taken out. The only reason I didn't give the Nature Center 5 stars is the parking layout. While handicap access is excellent inside the compound, you have to walk a long way to get to the entrance. My mother-in-law couldn't manage it on her walker, so we had to bring her wheelchair in our car. There are wheelchairs inside the building, so it would have made a difference if parking had been closer to the entrance.
