There's really just nothing special about this store. I was disappointed. Cracker Barrel has more atmosphere.
its the most homey place you can walk into-the man who runs it is wonderful- i walked in look around-shared a story-bought old fashion candy an sat down in rockin chair an visited for over an hour--LOVED IT--judy dixon
It seems to be a really cool step back in time. It was closed on Wednesday when we came through but open every other day. Excited to come back and look around maybe catch some comedy or music
Nice place to stop for a cold drink and country souvenirs. The drink boxes remind me of the childhood summers I spent at my great-grandparents country store. The owner was very friendly and chatted with us about the area.
So inviting on the outside, but so disappointing on the inside. Mostly overpriced touristy trinkets and gadgets. Not at all what I was expecting.
We have to go here at least two or three time while we are visiting so the boys can go get glass bottled drinks. This trip was so BAD! It has new owners and WE WILL NOT BE BACK!! you just do not bad mouth the man that started the business you bought. My boys loved to see Mr Mellon and when they heard this lady bad mouthing him they said we will never come back here again
This place has the potential to be awesome, it just isn't there yet. It looks great, but it needs to have more specialty nostalgia items.
We used to come here to look at the unusual musical instruments. But they no longer have these. The store now just carries the usual tourist trinkets. But you can often find someone performing on stage in the back room. So it's not a bad place to set a spell and listen.
Our family has stopped at Mellon's over the years. Maybe it's because we were there during the off season, but it seemed a little under stocked and disorganized. There wasn't as much neat stuff to look at anymore. I will give them the benefit of the doubt because my kids love the old fashioned candy and drink cases.
On our way back into Mountain View from a visit to Blanchard Springs Cavern and the accompanying recreational area we stopped in to Mellon's Country Store. It is a very typical gift shop in a touristy area, loaded with candy, souvenirs, toys, etc. The difference was the very congenial man who was in charge of things when we arrived. I found pottery from a local potter from whom I had commissioned a custom paten and chalice (for holy communion) some thirty years ago, and a cd of my favorite old-time Mountain View entertainer. Our host was friendly, cheerful, knowledgeable and eager to share with us his familiarity with the current scene.
I am not much on hokie country shows and backwoods comedy. I come to the area primarily for fishing and fabulous nature. Mellon's is however a favorite stop of mine. All the old time candy and soda pop. Toys from days gone by. It istruely is a step back in time. Found items that remind me of Grandma. Felsnaptha soap she used on Grandpa ring around the collar. A scene right out of Fried Green Tomatoes.
Stopped in here on a weekend trip and fell in love with the people and the place! Brought back so many memories of my youth and spending time with my grandparents in the country. The people that are there make you feel as welcome as can be and they are wonderful! This would be the only reason to come back to Mtn View!!!! Everyone needs to stop in here and enjoy the company and some warm boiled peanuts! If you have the time..stay for the show!!!
Relaxed and fun establishment. They offered us cake and ice cream and a chance to sit and listen to the locals play and sing.
What a flash to the past. Not only is this like a country store of old but there is a stage and free seating for shows featuring locals playing great mountain music and just having a good time. Great jellies, jams, novelties, drinks and more. Very very family friendly, but be prepared to be welcomed with a joke and made part of the fun.
The store had alot of Homemade jellies and jams Etc. Had alot of novelty items and History along with live music. Well worth the drive.
