Tasting room is small; wines similar to those at most wineries. Owner is a deacon in the Catholic church and has a small chapel next to the tasting room, along with a collection of large church bells he's collected over the years. The display is rather interesting.
Yes, the winery is small, but the taste is BIG! The Mount Magazine red & white are both wonderful. My favorite is Robert's Port. Bob was an extremely gracious host while we stayed in the room above the winery. First, it was very quiet & romantic with a stained glass window, a corner electric fireplace, a complimentary bottle of wine with cheese and crackers, and a double jetted tub. Bob brought a delicious, warm continental breakfast in a basket each morning to our door at an agreed upon time. Bob built a small chapel and bell tower with several tranquil outdoor areas to sit and relax. Don't miss this gem!
This winery was pretty small, which is okay, but they were celebrating some type of annual wine fest we had read about, but didn't really see any festival going on. They had no direction, no one to great you, just people wandering around as seemingly as confused as we were. You were allowed to taste 4 wines then after that you paid, and they did have some good wine. Problem was their wine tasting was where the cash register was, so really only one person could taste at a time. It was a pretty drive to get there, but the drive was so far, we really wished we had of skipped that one all together, as we saw no wine stomping as advertised, but maybe just overlooked it. It was one of those occasions that you just say, hmmm!
We stopped in to take a tour of the winery, our first in Arkansas. Bob meet us at the door and gave us a history lesson of Arkansas wine. Bob is also a deacon and a collector of large brass bells. His wines have won many awards and I would definitely recommend a visit to Cowie Winery.
