It was free and you were free to go almost everywhere. I happened to be there during their lunch break so I did not get to see either congress house in action. There were many exhibits and art works. Quite interesting to spend 1-2 hours.
Definitely worth a visit if you have some free time. It is a nice walk around the capitol as well, with some memorials and art worth seeing. Try to schedule a (free) tour if you are a big company or 'ride along' one - a lot of little interesting facts that you won't hear otherwise. If I am not mistaken, they have stopped regular tours (they used to have 2-3 per day) which was quite disappointing, but call in advance to find out when they have one.
Our group was greeted and given a tour. Everything went great! We met our representatives, and were able to find information we were looking for.
The scenery was pretty. The bathrooms were HUGE! No joke- there were like 20 foot tall doors for the stalls with their own sinks and whatnot! There was pretty landscaping and an interesting gift store. I enjoyed learning about the architecture..
We visited the capitol building just before Christmas, and I was amazed not only at the splendid Christmas decorations, but also the beauty of the building's architecture. I was not expecting such an elaborate construction. It was built in 1899 as a replica of our nation's capitol, and its halls and galleries showcase many historical items for visitors to peruse. We enjoyed looking at the pictures of senators from years past, finding the first women senators, former Civil War heroes, and senators who served for consecutive terms, as well as the changing fashions over the years. One side gallery had a great display set up about Arkansas history over the years - it would be a fabulous resource for students doing their state projects. There were vary few visitors the day we were there, and it was enjoyable to take our time looking at the many different courtrooms, galleries, statues and artwork, and the ornate details of the rotunda and bronze doors. The veterans memorial outside was a fitting tribute to our fallen heroes
We were there to attend the inauguration of Gov. Asa Hutchinson. We were surprised that workers were sanding and painting the inside of the rotunda of the capital on inauguration day.
The tour guide was knowledgeable and gave an excellent tour. The little gift shop area was a nice addition. There is a book that can be used for a self guided tour if that is what you desire.
It was fairly empty the day we went however it was an easy walk through the capitol. Luckily they had a scavenger hunt for the kids. They were enamored with that for most of the walk so they could learn while they played a game. Just remember to bring a pen or pencil with you.
For my entire life I have visited the Arkansas State Capitol during Christmas. The buildings are so impressive when driving north on Capitol Avenue. This area has changed and there's not much chance of walking around at night because of the neighborhood 's lack of safety. But the view from the car trip is still great.
A grand building at a perfect location. Travel on Capitol Ave and Lok back, it presents a nice view.
We visited before Christmas and enjoyed the significant display of Christmas related decorations and school choirs singing in the rotunda. They also had a surprisingly nice gift shop where we purchased some items for our grandchildren. We saw the government in action as we glanced at a meeting in progress with people around a large table, others seated around the sides of the room and a video camera taping the proceedings. This was all visible through windows from the corridor. It is not as spectacular as some other capitol buildings, but worth a visit.
This is a great place to visit, especially at Christmas. It's open later in the evening during the Christmas holiday. There are lots of photo opportunities. Free self guided tour books are available too.
Great place to relax and unwind while looking at great views of the city. Safe area with lots of things to do. The River market is not far, and plenty of hotels to choose from in this area.
We walked every level. My kids really enjoyed it. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. My kids learned a lot and had a great time.
Very pretty grounds, well worth a visit. The replica liberty bell is quite nice and you can get close up!Enjoyed an hour or so looking around!
