Small museum, but an interesting collection. Unfortunately, many of the exhibits were being changed when we visited, but we plan to return for the new exhibits on our next trip to Williamstown. My partner especially enjoyed the Assyrian display, while I loved the portraits. Nice little gift shop. Free admission.
I went to the wonderful special event "A Night at the Museum" and had an absolute blast! It's a smaller museum but the artwork displayed was wonderful! The staff were all energetic and the tours and games for the special event were fun and informative! I would definitely recommend stopping in especially if you're in town to visit The Clarke, it won't take long to go through the galleries and I really think it's worth it! I also think it's great that the students are actively involved in the museum and they do a great job!
What a funky place! It's a small space, but it really featured some interesting art I haven't seen before. Definitely worth a trip if you are in the area.
Well worth the visit when you go to see the Clark. Some very nice trompe l'oeil and a nice range of special exhibits when we where there. Especially interested in the Islamic calligraphy but there was contemporary installations, a wide range of masters. No fee. Enjoyed it!!
No need to go to Europe to see Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas - it is all here at theClark Art Museum. It contain world class paintings with such variety located in aquaint town of Williamstown, MA. It is a hidden diamond, but once discoverd is worth the visit. This art museum is a must visit for anyone visitng in the Berkshire region. Absolutelyfantastic.
The Clark Institute is one of our favorite stops in the Berkshires. It is a relatively small museum with an excellent collection of paintings and artifacts. The new wing complements the permanent collection nicely.A stop at the Clark is a MUST for any art lover who is visiting the Berkshire area.
Stopped by on a whim while traveling through the area and had a very enjoyable 2 hour visit. The museum has an eclectic collection, some of which are curated by the students who did a very good job. As an example we enjoyed a special collection of Indian raga prints, a modern art installation on Franz West https://artsy.net/artist/franz-west focusing on his "adaptives" and an interesting video installation by Angelica Mesitsi that was quite moving. I would certainly return in another year to see what new works are up and what students have been doing. Well worth a detour and the surrounding area, even on a cloudy winter cay has a lot of charm.
Heavy on the "hidden". But worth seeking out with a little walking to find. Franz West was fun to see.
This little on-campus museum in Williamstown is a gem. Many people mention that it's free, but you should also appreciate that its gift shop is very reasonably priced and helped me solve a few birthday present voids! The staff is friendly, and it's worth a stop as you tour the area and travel Route 2.
the architecture and exhibits complimented each other -lines of the structure and curves of the sculptures
A small art museum always worth a visit. I go every time I'm in Wiliamstown. Features small, good shows covering major world art traditions. Exhibitions change several time a year.
Dropped in for the folk art show which was small and well laid out.Like lots of college galleries there are the usual space issues but there is avariety of things to appeal to all interests.I hope the sparse attendance was just a function of the time of visit as all the effort should be better appreciated.
Yes, in comparison to the Clark, the Williams College Museum of Art is a lot smaller, but it earnestly makes up for it in the quality of the absolutely fascinating exhibits it stages on a regular basis. At times it almost seems like the offspring of The Clark and Mass MoCA for the combination of avant garde art and classical works, even to Assyrian stelae. It's definitely a must stop for a true lover of art that opens one's mind and eyes.
It is free and small. The staff is delightful and helpful. Two levels and usually a special exhibit.
A Remington sculpture piqued my interest moderately. Otherwise, it is a small and boring museum with an abundance of mundane works. The Clark Institute of Art (less than a mile away) puts it to shame, so don’t bother with this one unless you have nothing better to do. Admission is free. Closed on Wednesdays.
