red tail golf club

Been playing Red Tail for 6 seasons, about 2-4 times only each season because of its high fees. Cart and range balls are included in the fees. It is our favorite course now in central Mass. There are easily 5/6 holes that could have been signature holes at other courses. Pleasantly, there are more downhill holes than uphill ones. The result yields commanding views on many holes—very effective use of the terrain indeed. All the par 3s holes are visually intimidating but the designer, Silva, gives you safe alternative landing areas. Traffic is light even on weekends late that we sometimes finish in less than 4 hours. Conditions are nearly always impeccable. The large greens are consistent and contoured. Generally, pin positions are very friendly. But you can see that they can easily set it up to baffle. With 5 sets of tees and long tee boxes, there are lots of possibilities to accommodate the skilled golfers and hackers alike. Best times to play are in the spring and fall when rates are discounted and when the views are the best. We always play in the afternoon for the discounted rates.

The layout of this course is terrific, lots of topography and is in good shape. Back 9 is especially interesting with a "links" fell. But they had no carts when we arrived, took us 5.5 hours to play 18, waited on every shot, no sign of a marshal, and no drinks cart. Their goal is to get as many people out as possible--270 played--so don't come on a summer weekend if you want to play at a reasonable pace.

So excited to end this long winter. Red Tail has been busy. New green golf carts, many of the cart paths re paved, new carpet in tavern & nice new golf attire in pro shop. Course has drained well, greens / fairways look good, bunkers raked... Let it warm up and we will have great golf.
