redstone rail trail

The Redstone Rail Trail is a nice level trail that starts on Maple Street near the Dunkin Donuts and goes South crossing Chestnut Street, Industrial Drive and then ends at a small parking lot on Denslow Road. Along the way there are informational points with historical information about the Town (nice). Be careful crossing the streets because people do not always stop. Good for familieswith young kids because there are no steep inclines.

This 1.4 mile trail from Denslow Rd to Maple Road is a paved trail that was constructed by the town back in Sept 2010. Many pine trees were put in along with beautiful marble benches and is maintained by the town. Trail was built on the former Boston and Maine railroad, the dominate rail line in New England for more than a century. The old East Longmeadow Train Station still stands near Maple St. This station was used for moving rock from the nearby Red Stone Quarry, hence the name "Redstone Rail Trail". It's great to have this in our town.
