Formerly a private estate, now a state park, pretty well maintained, with tons of walking trails and fields, good for people or dogs or even horses. Intriguing former mansion and current disk golf (frisbee!) layout. Worth a trip even if you are not from the nearby town or two.
One of the gems in the Commonwealth's Parks. Hiking or walking trails, a Disc Golf Park. Plenty of fresh air to clear your mind. Wander around to your hearts content, bring a friend or a pet. Family friendly atmosphere and a little bit of the countries history all in one place. The town of Easton is the original home of the Ames Foundry, the makers of Ames farming, and garden implements. The main one being the Ames Shovel that served us well over the years. Come and relax in our little town.
I went to BSP for the first time last week. Even though I went alone, I had so much fun exploring the site. Definitely was a learning experience, and I plan on going back there soon.
Family went to borderland for an afternoon walk. My daughter was glad to see all the dogs out for a walk - this is a very pet friendly place. I was intrigued by the disk golfers and historic Ames estate. Best part is that there were moments we were able to still feel lost (in a good way) with nature of wooded areas along the path. Wonderful park with so much to offer. No fee to enter and just $2.00 for parking if you go by car.
This was my first trip to Borderland State Park and I wasn't sure what to expect. There were trails for families with small children and accessible for strollers and the like. If you're looking to picnic on flat ground with plenty of green space for the kids to run and play, this is great! Hikers will get a work out as well. There are varied trails for the casual hiker and the slightly more advanced hiker. I had my camera, so my quest was for photography opportunities. I am sure there is plenty more that I did not experience, but I guess I will have to trek on over again. A definite would be to wear or bring bug spray as lots of gnats to deal with and I was there on Mothers Day. If your picnicking, then this can be an all day affair.
I love this place. It's my favorite place to run! I often see people walking, biking, or riding horses. I've taken my dogs for walks-wonderful! If it's summer, don't forget your bug spray. The mosquitos can get crazy.
Borderland is a great local park to go for a walk with your dog! My dog loves the walk and taking a dip in the pond! We also always run into a couple other dogs along the way which is nice! It is pretty, scenic, and great exercise! They also have dog bowls by the water fountains at the entrance which i thought was really great!
Massachusetts is one of the smaller states yet it has one of the best park systems in the country. Borderland is a 1700 acre park that preserves deciduous forests, rare plants (Ladies Slipper Orchids), several ponds, streams and the Ames Mansion. The hiking trials offer a beautiful way to enjoy nature either on foot or bicycle. You can do a quick, easy hike if you have limited time or limited endurance or a days hiking for those looking for more exercise. In winter there are trails for cross county skiing as well. If you ever get the opportunity take a tour of the Ames Mansion, it is a fabulous home created by Oakes and Blanche Ames. Our guide shared the story of this amazing couple (Oakes was a famous botanist at Harvard and Blanche is well known as an artist, suffragette and author), how they built the house in 1910, it's history and the life they lived in it. It is always wonderful to hear a story from someone who is passionate about sharing it with others and our guide loved what he did.
great place to have a picnic with your family, walk the trails and relax. The area of the fountain in one of the corners of the mansion is beautiful. There is tennis court and an area where people can play professional frisbee. The trail network is extensive and includes trail for horses; we could have kept going on and on but we made it to the pond in 30 minutes with a stroller. This pond is large and of the swampy kind. I will go back to explore other trails.
I have been walking at Borderland State Park for over 40 years and it holds a very special place in my heart for its beauty, recreational opportunities, friendly and happy people, and all the beautiful animals known to mankind. This park, in my opinion, is heaven.
What's not to love about this place! There are so many trails to try that it's impossible to get bored of this place. This place has a disc golf course that is supposed to be incredible.
We are locals and walk here frequently with our (leashed) dogs. Great big loop of about 4 miles, I think. Great exercise for us and the pooches! Plus it's gorgeous. Used to sled her in winters as a kid too, but haven't done that in a long time so have no comments on the conditions of late in that department.
great tours of the house by the staff..clean, wide paths for simple hiking plus off track paths for the serious climber.
With different settings for different age groups Borderlands accomidates families to induviduals for a variety of activities. Worth returning to if you enjoy recreation in the outdoors.
Borderland is a great place to take your dog for a nice rewarding walk. The trails are very easy to navigate and they take you through woods, around a pond and through open fields. At the end of the walk lay down in the grassy area in front of the mansion and catch some rays, you and you dog will be glad you did!
