The Myles Standish Monument is a good walk from where we had to leave the car. The bars were across the road but a worker said we could walk up to the monument. My husband stayed with the car at the opening of road and I walked and walked and walked to find this monument (about 3/4 mi). It is huge, and in the middle of this forest and he's facing the water. You can't walk in front of the statue to get good picture because you will fall down an embankment. Not a great location for this monument.
The forest has a huge number of ponds, beaches, equestrian trails and biking paths. The trees provide cover from the sun in summer and the pine tree smell is great. Lots of camping and tenting options. Check it out.
This is a wonderful forested park in Plymouth Mass. There are trails for hiking, bicycling, riding; you name it. My husband and I walked around a reservoir on a beautiful autumn day. It was glorious!
there are bike and horseback riding trails, places to camp, cabins to rent lots of lakes to swim and boat on. It is a good base for spending time in Plymouth if you like the outdoors.
We were in a yurt on Bartlett Pond and had a great weekend. Everything was clean, the pond was great and the yurt fit our needs completely. The forest is large and quite lovely, especially this time of year. It's only about 20 minutes from Plymouth beach; lots to do in the area. We'll be back!
We stayed at Fearing Pond and it was a great place! Plenty of space and a short wander down to the beach. The water was warm and the views of the surrounding forest were amazing! Kids were having a blast riding their bikes along the pathways, playing games and splashing around in the pond. I don't have children but their noise didn't bother me at all, hey it's their holiday too! The toilets were, well, camping site quality but the toilets flushed and the water was hot! I will definitely go back again, I loved it!!!!!
My friend and I had driven down from Toronto (Canada) to spend a long weekend in Boston. As we also wanted to get a camping trip in, so we decided to camp at Myles Standish State Forrest (55 minutes south of Boston). We looked at a few other state sites, however many of them listed that there was no alcohol permitted at their sites, so we decided to go with Myles Standish. Getting to the site was easy (thank you GPS), but we did need to check in and provide our car’s information. The main ‘house’ where the registration takes place is big enough to fit multiple families in at once, however they have a very strict rule that only 1 family can be inside at once. Fine. So we waiting outdoors for over 15 minutes and a line of over 6 families grew behind us. Once we were let into the house (there was still another family inside, but I guess they decided to break their rule), a super nice young man got us all set up. He gave us a map to get to our site, and gave us a tag for the car. We purchased firewood from them (as no outside firewood is allowed into the park) and asked him where the closest liquor store was. Only to be told that there was no alcohol allowed on the site. Thanks for NOT putting that on your website. We drove up 7 miles to our area; Curlew Pond. The sites are pretty close together, and if you have an option of which site to book, definitely get one of the ones down on the water (MUUUUCH nicer than the others). Our site ended up being in the middle of two families sites; which meant they kept trekking right through the middle of our site to get to one another. Everyone around us was openly drinking (so I guess it’s more of a suggestion than a rule). There were 3 washrooms in our area. One looked amazing (very large, well lit, etc) but it was far away from our site, so we used the closer one… which was dirty to say the least. All in all, the lake was beautiful, and the drive in an out (although very long) was pretty.
The first week of august, we were at curlew pond. I think they never clean seriously the bathroom and shower since it was built last year, the toilet smelled urine all the week and old soap and waste stayed on the floor of the shower many days before someone picked it up. A huge coat of soap and black spot covered all the wall of the shower. We never saw that in any state park before
The forest itself is very neat and HUGE ab appears to offer good outdoor activity opportunities (we didn't do any hiking, biking, etc.). We stayed here to camp 2 nights while we saw Plymoth. Staff was very friendly. Easy drive into Plymoth ~20 minutes. However we were not fans of their campground. Campers are packed one on top of the other making for no privacy. Bathrooms were relatively clean with on very new building. Hot showers.
This is a nice place to walk or bicycle. The scenery is not spectacular, pine woods and small ponds, but pleasant and relaxing. Has many miles of paved bike paths which are separated from the vehicle traffic. The paths although paved suffer a bit from frost heaves which means it is not a super smooth ride, but still very pleasant. Camping is available check in with the park headquarters.
I've stayed here with friends and family several times over the last 5-6 years. The good things about this park: - good swimming - good fishing - good size camp sites - decent bathrooms and showers - good location, pretty close to boston/south shore areaThings that aren't great: - shade is literally non-existent. So in July, you better stay in the lake - the beach that was close to our site (area B) was really packed. At one point, it was actually hard to find a space for the 7-8 of us to sit. - you better bring all your food. There is a small convenience store close by that has essentials, but it's pretty pricey (which is expected) So overall we like the park, the biggest issue is there was no shade, and the heat really got to us.
To quote Robert Frost, "the woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep." Miles Standish goes on for miles with well marked trails and is a fabulous resource for Plymouth and Massachusetts. A beautiful way to spend the day.
Took awhile to talk my girl into camping but she gave in and this is where we went. Stayed at Curlew Pond, on the water and could not have asked for a better site. Bathrooms are clean, showers good. Campground is huge as a whole but where we chose was perfect. back roads make downtown plymouth and shopping not too far, as to going back through the front of the park. Super Walmart nearby too!!
There are so many trails to explore- but if you get there just after a storm you will have to make your own trails (tough)-but if ski-mobelers have been there-it's great- it's pure beauty-but remember where you started off- there are so many trails you could get lost- but as I said it's pure beauty
Two hikes to recommend. The easier and most traveled hike would be the hike around the pond at the ranger station. This hike is great for children as well. Even at a very leisurely pace one could finish this walk in under two hours. Another hike that is longer but so beautiful is the Bentley Loop. This hike is longer and includes some slight elevation changes. This is a favorite trail for me.
