Now that it's winter, New England doesn't do the lighthouse justice. During the summer it's a great spot to take family, friends, your dog or yourself to see the sunrise and sunsets. The jetties are in good standing and it's a fun spot to fish as well.
Great walk year round. Tour inside at Heritage Days every August. This local lighthouse is seen on national TV and The Weather Channel every time a Noreaster or Hurricane threatens this quaint New England Drinking Village with a Fishing Problem
Scituate Lighthouse is a great place to visit! Doesn't matter if you plan on spending only five minutes or two hours it never disappoints. When you arrive there is plenty of parking so get out and walk around! There is a nice small beach area to stroll along, as long as it is not high tide. There is two sets of jettys for you to walk along and provide great views of the lighthouse? The location of the lighthouse provides many great views from Scituate Harbor. There is always plenty of photo-ops! Sunrise and moonrise often provide a wonderful backdrop for your photo, especially for full moon! Another great backdrop is during a storm! However if you try to visit during high tide of a Nor'Easter be warned the road and area may be flooded and dangerous to travel!
Off season, easy parking, well kept, pretty little lighthouse. Nice signage telling bits of history.Nice place for photos, harbor backdrop. The sort of "find" that just makes you smile.
It is just beautiful and the view is spectacular. Everyone was out walking their dogs and it had a big sense of community pulling everyone together. They get hit with storms really bad and the Lighthouse is there to protect and guide.
Such a beauty. Right along the water. It was so tall and pretty. Made a great back drop for pictures. Really a nice place to visit.
Want a good destination for a day outing, come to Scituate and take in our lighthouse and get a lttile history lesson while taking in the great view of Scituate Harbor and the Atlantic ocean. You can walk the loop which is less than a mile to stretch out the legs. There are number of great places to have lunch or dinner in the Harbor.
Beautiful lighthouse our on the entrance to Scituate Harbor. There is a large parking lot. The light house is not opened to the public (only on specific days by Scituate Historical Society check their website). The home attacked is occupied so try to give the people a bit of privacy. It is fine to walk around and out onto the jetty.
While in Scituate this lighthouse is a must do! Bring along some snacks and drinks, sit on the rocks and take some time to drink in the views and cool breeze.
Plenty of parking, open on select days only . Great infomation at the site. Caretaker always gives great info. He has a lot of info on the internet. Scituate light
So beautiful, a must go in Scituate, I wouldn't have been able to forgive myself for missing it! Just a wonderful place for families.
Great little light house - sunset was gorgeous and the walk down to the tower was quick and easy. Parking is abundant and there is a little history lesson to be learned regarding the War of 1812.
Scituate lighthouse is worth a stop on any trip on the south shore, especially if you have kids. Most important you don't need a sticker to park. The lighthouse is impressive, the view can be breathtaking . The new breakwater is flat and you can walk way out to the end. Kids love the rocks and the fishing is pretty good. Tucked away on the harbor side is the only"free" beach in town. The water is shallow and warm and at low tide there's a nice sandy beach to sit and watch the small boat traffic. No restroom facilities and the parking lot fills up fast so plan accordingly. It's a hidden gem
Scituate has several truly iconic historic landmarks, and, in my opinion, Scituate Lighthouse is in the top three, sharing the spotlight (pun intended, I think) with Minot's Ledge Light and Lawson Tower. However, Scituate Lighthouse has the most storied and distinguished history - a good, concise description can be found at http://scituatehistoricalsociety.org/light/. The lighthouse is probably one of the most photographed structures on the Massachusetts coast, and is a favorite site for Boston-area meteorologists to visit and report from during northeasters!Best of all, it's beautiful at Scituate Lighthouse whenever you visit - from wintry days with the surf crashing over the jetty, to summer in late afternoon as the boats return to the harbor, it's an ideal place to sit in the car or on a bench and just enjoy.Try to visit when the lighthouse is open for a tour, too.
This was great to see it's just sad that we chose a time when they are redoing the area (which was needed from the storms). Hopefully we will be able to see it up closer next time.
