Took a family trip here for the weekend. The kids really enjoyed learning about how things were done in "the old days". It was not very crowded which allowed for many questions to be asked. Stayed at the Hampton Inn just down the road. The tickets were good for two days and we went both. So much to see in one day. Go to their website for discount tickets. Worth every penny. Easy to get to and plenty of parking.
Old Sturbridge Village has seasonal events and something for everyone. Their website says it best: OSV.org. If you're crafty - there's blacksmithing, textiles, early American cooking, tinsmithing and survival classes! I think any age group will enjoy visiting for a weekend or if time is limited, for a couple hours. There's even maple sugar making, music concerts, great restaurants and lodging. If you're traveling from the NY area to NH or ME, (or parts further) this is a great stop. Easy on/off to I84.
My husband daughter and grandson and I attended the Family Cook. We had the most incredible evening. The staff were very friendly and made us all at ease while preparing the dinner. Preparing and cooking the meal as if we were in the 1800's was very educational interesting and fun. The meal was fantastic. It was the most enjoyable family putting we have done. We all keep talking about it there was nothing about it but incredible enjoyment
My daughter and I just love going here! The simplicity of the settings and the fun of playing the old fashioned games keeps us coming back. We always have a nice and relaxing day away from electronics and commotion :) Love their special events too.
Always have an excellent time going to the Village! Plenty of options for strolling through buildings and exhibits. We also went for July 4th fireworks and they were fantastic!
Come here ofter. Love to walk through the village. The garden at the farm house is wonderful to visit if you are interested in growing your own vegetables. The people at the farmhouse are very knowledgeable and will tell you how to plant and how to preserve or cook the items. There is also the herb garden where you can see many different plants that you have probably only read about. Here you can learn what they really look like and you have probably seen them before but didn't know that's what you were looking at
My wife & I were here last September with her Dad & enjoyed it very much. Most buildings had activities taking place while we were there and the staff were very helpful and informative. It`s a fully operational little township showing how things were in the 1800`s in Massachusetts. They have a big church, cooper shop(barrels) blacksmith, pottery shop with a giant kiln, general store, post office, cemetery, library, etc. etc. Working farms with real animals, a horse-drawn stage coach. You could spend most of the day there if you take your time to enjoy each part of it. I highly recommend it.
I'm a local and I never get tired of this place. This isn't the history of boring dates, it's seeing how normal people lived and being able to picture yourself in their situation.
Looking for a walk back in time, visit Sturbridge Village. Bring your walking shoes and strollers for the little ones for this visit. Also, remember your sunscreen if it's a sunny day.
Its not Williamsburg but it is nice and it is nearly original. A good take especially if you're travelling with children. It's a little pricey for young families so plan lunch in the parking lot they readmit you on the same day. If you're older and just the two of you it is a lazy enjoyable afternoon and they have a 4th of July fireworks display that alone is worth the price of admission.
A wonderful place for my daughter's wedding. The setting and staff were great. The event planner attended to all our needs, even asking the bartender to come up with a glass of sangria (in February) for one of the guests. The food, I had turkey dinner, was very good.
Very well presented, highly informative, quite a lot of interaction, photo opportunities which will impress your friends and, retrospectively, yourself.
I went their on a school field trip and found it very entertaining. I disliked how they left animal poop EVERYWHERE and had dead chicken cooking. They snapped some none of the chicken as we turned around. Ya great way to end fourth grade!!!
We spent the afternoon there last summer, and it was fun and informative. It's like taking a trip back in time to see how hard it was to live years ago.You had to plan all year to survive.Make your own food, preserve it.Enjoyed the demonstrations too.
