I was here for a youth event and while the facility was nice, their monopolistic food policies put a damper on the event. Because it was not wise to spend $12 on a hamburger, we went out to get our food.Unfortunately, we were not allowed to bring it in.This added unnecessary complexities to our event.
Came yesterday for a College Basketball game. The arena itself is fine but it definitely needs sprucing up. Some of the bathrooms felt run down and 1 was out of toilet paper when the gates opened. Typical arena food / drink prices. Seating bowl was fine and well marked out. Just showing signs of old age.
Had a great time today with hubby at the first ever Vapor Convention in New England. Space was good size and booths where set up nicely! Hope there will be a return next year!
This place was once the heart of entertainment in Springfield. Before my time, in the early 1970’s all sorts of major concerts took place here including The Who, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, KISS, and Grateful Dead. There has only been a small handful since. The arena did become very popular again in the late 80’s and early 90s. The Springfield Indians, an AHL hockey team that was affiliates of the NHL Hartford Whalers played here and won back to back Calder Cups, once having won 3-straight elimination games in the semis, and became super popular. Their home playoff games were then sell outs. Also during that period Nirvana, Aerosmith, and AC/DC did concerts. There was actually televised WWF (now WWE) wrestling events such as Saturday Night Main Event, Smack Down and Raw and titles changed hands here multiple times. These days I’m not sure there has been anything sell out in a decade. This past winter for the first time in several years I visited here twice. The place wasn’t much different from when I was a kid but had a lot more empty like feel and hasn’t been upgraded to current times. My first trip was for an Armor (NBA D-League) game. The basketball game was just pathetic. The place was pretty much empty (not joking, 10% capacity maybe) and the food stand somehow was out of Nachos? The second trip was for a Srpingfield Falcons AHL hockey game, and that was a bit better and I enjoyed it. The Falcons game draw a decent crowd but gate prices were less than online sale price I paid in advanced, and there were a considerable amount of empty seats. The Falcons were good too and leading the league, but no longer have level of support the Indians once had.So the booking for this place is mostly poor. However, they do seem to host a number of conventions. But the facilities don’t appear the best. I mean they are fine, adequate and enough space but the building is kind of run down and has this empty like feel. So it’s a convention center. I’ve been to nice convention centers all over including Toronto, Chicago, Dallas, Vegas, Los Angeles, Macau, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. This place is LOL pathetic by comparison. But hey, maybe it hosts smaller events and is cheaper to use? Well for that I rate it average. No way soon in anyone going to come from out of area to bring people from out of area to gather for a convention of some sorts here. There is no appeal at all for that. So it is a place for local companies and organizations to host small event. Maybe for that all it has going for it is being one of the only few options as no one travels to Springfield for such stuff.I don’t want to dis the place too hard, but it is certainly below average, maybe not quite poor, but I want to stress that is below average so chose 2 instead of 3 stars for my rating of it.
The arena is OK for what it's used for but, could use a freshening up. Bldg is old and a new paint job would do wonders.
You wouldn't connect a conference/sports center and food but I needed to write this to recognize the quality of the food we received as part of our three day event held at MMC. We had three meals a day. For each the presentation was wonderful. All of the items were fresh. We had a light bakes stuffed sole one night with rice and salad. The next, a great Italian selection with pasta, three different sauces, and meatballs or sausage so people could put together their own plates (very accommodating for vegetarians etc). This came with a wonderful antipasto dish. Lunch was a selection of sandwiches, unique salads and soups. Clam chowder was excellent! All came with dessert and coffee and tea. If you are holding an event there, I would recommend the food service.
What a bargain for $8.50, attending this special Sunday afternoon game, benefiting a local hospital. Had a seat in general admission near the court, the facility was spotlessly clean with excellent service from its ushers, vendors, and staff. Great family entertainment from this NBA Developmental League team!
The concession food is terrible, and the bathrooms are a bit scary, but there aren't any really bad seats and the staff is plentiful but not overbearing. A nice mid size event venue.
We attended an event in the MassMutual Center ballroom. This event offered valet parking which was very nice. The new MassMutual Center has great signage, extremely clean and a friendly and helpful staff. However that is it and this is where it ends. The catering cost is extremely high, drinks are expensive and the food quality is bad. The dinner started with a salad with lettuce, one cucumber, two small tomatoes and some shave carrots. This was the best part of the meal. The dinners were either steak or salmon, the steak wasn’t even steak it was a terrible cut of meat and the salmon wasn’t bad but they put a pepper sauce over the fish. Both came with a small amount of green beans and crappy mashed potatoes. The dessert was this awful piece of apple pie with one squirt of melted whip cream on the side of the pie. I like water and coffee with my meal – I received one refill of my water when I asked for it and nobody came around with extra coffee. The ballroom wait staff were not friendly. For the price we paid this was a very disappointing meal. If you are thinking of having a catered event in the ballroom stop and go someplace else. Any place is better!
we attended a graduation there this weekend. Very clean and plenty of bathrooms.. very slow moving elevator but handicap seating is available. Leave plenty of time for parking if its a big event
Everything went smooth - no long lines for beverages & food.. But they should have outside security after the show
