When you are on Marthas' Vineyard island, you must go to Menemsha Beach and enjoy the glorious sunsets. Rocky beach so bring your walking shoes.
At Mememsha Beach the sunset is a celebration. If you ever go to Martha's Vineyard be sure to set one evening aside to capture one of the greatest sunsets you will ever see. Make sure to bring shoes or sandals though as the beach is rocky.
Sure, you can swim there but it's the sunsets, the chance to walk or fish on the jetties, amble along the shoreline looking for shells, catch glimpses of the Elizabeth Islands off in the distance, and stroll down the wharf to see the fishing boats bring in the catch that are the real calling cards of this beach. Plus you can buy excellent lobster and clam chowder at the local fish market and eat them on the spot or bring them home for dinner. You'll love it all!
We were recommended to go and watch the sunset on Menemsha beach. We got there about 6.30 with a bottle of wine and brought hot lobster buttered rolls from the fish market which were the best I've ever tasted. We had a couple of low chairs to sit on and we joined everyone on the beach to watch the sun set. Well what can I say it was absolutely beautiful, I can't think of enough words to describe it. When it set everyone got to their feet and clapped, it took your breath away. Stay for an hour or so after the sun has set because the different colours and shapes are remarkable. If you're visiting Martha's Vineyard this is a must, you would be foolish to miss it.
I joined the many people who were gathered to watch and photograph the sunset. It did NOT disappoint. WOW!!! I got some gorgeous shots. Afterwards, really enjoyed eating at the Menemsha Fish Market.
Picnic on the beach with friends and family and enjoy God'creation. We were so mesmerized by the sunset and calm atmosphere. Folks had either their chairs or blankets watching in amazement at the sun appearing as if it laid in on the ocean for a few minutes as it made its exit. Awesome!
Go early and get a parking spot and stay all day! Bring a beach umbrella or two, plenty of food and drink. Stay until sunset and watch the best nature has to offer! You can bring bikes and take the bike ferry across the little river. You can go without bikes and just go over and explore. Your overlooking the most scenic harbor on the island, and of course it's the harbor from the filming of Jaws! You can eat fresh local seafood at the nearby wharf type places, which are all really good.Spend as much time here as you can! It's truly one of the best things on the island!
We LOVE Menemsha sunsets in late summer after most of the tourists have gone. It's always relaxing, the bugs aren't bad - and I've never had a bad experience on this beach ever!
Grab a blanket, take the kids, climb over the rocks, bring dinner, a bottle of wine and watch the sunset!!!!!!!! ENJOY LIVING!!!!!
Beautiful sunset! If you want to get a parking space arrive before 5:00 and bring dinner, drinks and chairs and just relax. There is food available at the beach but the lines are super long. It is truly a memorable time. Enjoy!
The best place on the island to watch the sunset!!!! I love coming here to eat seafood on the beach while enjoying the view. We ordered hot lobster rolls from Menemsha fish market this time which was much less crowded than Larsen's and equally as tasty. The only downfall is the parking!! There is a small public lot that fills very quickly and it's almost impossible to find parking. They have a parking lot a few miles away with a shuttle to the beach which we took this time and wasn't bad. Overall a must if you visit the Island!!
We arrived around 5 and struggles to park. Hear there's a new parking lot with a shuttle bus, which we"ll try next time. Beautiful evening and lots of others there waiting for sunset. Walked down the road and got boiled lobsters and some bisque to eat on the beach. Lovely view and calm seas - wish I had the kayak out. Very festive atmosphere. Kids played on the jetty and swam. Lots of pretty polished rocks here.
Has bathrooms which is important! Nice beach but a little rocky. Has a few places to eat. All in all a nice place for a few hours in the sun
I spent a day on this beach just soaking up the rays and listening to the ocean. The sand was very clean. I observed a family of five cleaning up - picking up trash along the beach very early in the morning. I guess that's one way to keep it in good shape. The water was very cold (June) so I didn't fully go in. I saw a few people brave what seemed like icy water. Water shoes are MUST here - the rocks are not friendly to the bottoms of your feet. The bathrooms were clean and there are lots of different places to eat nearby.
Very clean beach with calm waters. Sits next to a working fishing harbor and with boat coming and going. Nice spot for picnic lunch. Just kick back and relax.
