I love kayaking on the ponds, swimming as well.I used to always camp there one or two weekends a summer, but now you can not bring in your own firewood, you have to buy from them. I Live on the Cape so the firewood I bring in IS local. Most out of staters had opportunity to buy local firewood from local stands outside the campgrounds MUCH cheaper.

We stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed our time camping on the Cape. The location is convenient to the bike path, the bay and the ocean side. September is a nice time to visit as it is still warm and not as crowded.

Great biking, hiking, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and of course camping. The Cape Cod Rail Trail (Bike Trail) goes right through the park and continues onto Orleans Village. The freshwater ponds at the park are fantastic. Great Spot!

I loved seeing the ocean floor and walking out onto it. I really should have studied up on tides before going. I found it amazing. Was only disappointed by the number of places that were closed which was due to our lateness in planning this getaway. Next time we'll plan on maybe 2nd week of Sept

The ponds are a wonderful place to swim, and the bike trails are a great way to enjoy the scenery. All the camp sights are within easy access to both.

I haven't camped in years and we really had a very nice time on this trip with a group of neighbors. Nickerson has nicely-sized lots with enough preserved tree cover to offer some privacy. Lake was accessible enough without introducing concern that our younger kids might accidentally wander over. Felt safe to let the kids ride their bikes around the driveways. Huge word of caution; do not follow Google Maps through the "back" entrance unless you own a full 4x4 and even then...just don't.

We stayed two nights and we liked our site. The park was great for biking. We had a travel trailer and one complaint that was a concern was the dump station. That might not mean a lot to some but to those who CARE about germs beware. It was very sloppy to say the least. Now that's from uncaring users. Not the park's fault. We as campers must try to keep things clean. There was toilet tissue around the area. Also, now this is a park issue - where are containers to dispose of gloves worn. There were a few gloves around. Gross! So off we went to our next stop without a complete cleansing. Who wants to walk around wet areas and bring it into the car. I sound like a germaphobic but you never know. Again, the park is very nice. We had a great visit and day trip to Cape Cod. Bathrooms are satisfactory and showers are in another building. We'd definitely go back.

Visited the park on a Wednesday in the fall. I think my husband and I were the only ones there. Its a big state park with lots of trails and ponds! It was so tranquil and relaxing. The water seemed so clean. Next time we bring 2 beach chairs and a couple of sandwiches and hang out!!! Loved it would definitely come back!!!

We have been going to Nickerson State Park on and off for the past 25 years. It's one of the best State parks we have camped in, the sites are big and private for the most part. Great access to the bike trails up to Wellfleet and around the park. The only negative comment is that on Saturday we returned back to camp after a hard day cycling to find a group of around 30 young boys camped at the back of us taking up around 3 sites. It became very noisy with lots of yelling which went on until 8pm at night (the rain drove them into bed early) luckily they were only there for one night but my suggestion is to have a designated area purely for these groups. There were around 3 other groups of this size dotted around the camp during our 8 day stay.

I have been enjoying Nickerson for decades and I never tire of it!It is located right off the Rail Trail and there are miles of additional bike trails throughout the park. Of course, you don't need to have a bike to use the trails. I have thoroughly enjoyed just walking on them, throughout the woods, alongside ponds. Once, I even encountered a couple of deer on the trail and we just sort of sized each other up and had a "moment" until one of us made the first move. It was truly magical.I've camped there as well and the camp sites are large enough to spread out but are also far enough apart that you're not up close and personal with the surrounding campers. I would, however, like to see some "device-free" zones as the last time I was there I really got tired of listening to cell phones and electronic noise. My only complaint is related to some of what has been done in the spirit of "improvement". For years, one of my favorite activities was to go down to Cliff Pond early in the morning and savor the quiet, sometimes watching the mist rise up off the water and listening to the birds. As the day progressed, families would come in (because it's great swimming for young kids due to the shallow water) and the beach would get a little crowded. But it was still somewhat out of the way and, because it really wasn't a "public" beach, it didn't offer some of the amenities found elsewhere. The lack of some of those amenities also helped to keep the crowds from becoming unwieldy. Unfortunately, the last time I was there they had roped off a section of the water into an officially designated swimming area….totally destroying the natural ambience that made that part of the park so special. From my perspective, this was totally unnecessary. There are plenty of other public beaches with designated and/or roped off swimming areas throughout the park. I don't see the need to take one of the few unspoiled areas and make it more official. There should be at least one beach in the park so that those of us who prefer un-fussy, more natural environments can enjoy some space too.Other than that, though, there is truly something for everyone here. I have spent an entire week at Nickerson, never doing the same thing twice and never tiring of it.

We stopped at Flax Pond on a cycling trip along the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Crystal clear water--some of the cleanest for swimming I've seen. Bath house on site with spigot for rinsing. Wish there was a bike rack near the bath house, I'm not sure, with bike trails nearby, why there isn't one.

This is a hidden gem in cape cod, proving that cape cod is more than just beaches. There is a beautiful lake where you can kayak and paddle board. This is a great trip especially if it's too windy on the beach.

The layout of the place is great. Large campsites; even though some folks were a little loud, we had enough privacy and enjoyed the camping trip. The one disappointment was the camp store. Not open for the much-needed coffee at 6 or 7 am; not enough camping necessities, such as poison ivy creams/lotions/soaps...they could pack the store to the hilt with goodies, stay open more hours, and make a bundle. They do have camp wood, though.

Our three year old loved the trail system within this park. Lots of elevation changes, mushrooms, and the occassional frog. We rented a canoe (right in the park - a little pricy, but very convenient) and spent another afternoon playing on all the little beaches around the various ponds. If you go late in the day, there's a bonus as you typically won't have to pay the parking charge.

The ponds are warm and great for swimming- good for kids as they are gradual in depth and have sandy beaches and bottoms for a ways out. Some of the bonds have boat rentals and are good for fishing. Bike trails meander through the park, and are again perfect for kids because there aren't many hills and they are smoothly paved- and safe! We are lucky to have this park in our midst! Lots of camp sites, some on the shoreline.
