the chesapeake beach railway museum

A very knowledgeable railroad buff shared their thoughts and experiences with my exercise/walking class from PGCC on a Thursday afternoon. We all enjoyed the talk and the museum, a small nugget of southern MD history. Good food nearby at the Chesapeake House Restaurant, too.

this was the first time that I ever was in the area when the museum was open to visitors(just poor timing), so it was a great treat for me to finally go inside. The staff is there to answer questions, but not intrusive. There were many many artifacts and pictures to look at and I don't think I could take it all in on one visit. I will be back.

Very small, lots of info and pictures. There is a video you can watch. Kid friendly to play with the toy train and can touch the old style clothing and bathing suits.

It was very informative and educated us about what the railroad was like. It was small, however the guide was very knowledgeable.

The museum is very small, but worth the short visit (especially since its free!). Van was the proprietor the day we went and he was obviously very passionate about the history of the Chesapeake Beach railway, and pointed out some of the more interesting things in the museum to us.

had alot of nice information about trains and train cars int the back that was made into areas to eat. not very big museum though.

The pictures and antiques from that time period were extremely fascinating!!! We loved the model set up so you can see where things were laid out when it was built. Plus the train table helped occupy the kids!

This small museum on the spot of the old Chesapeake Beach railroad station is a quick visit for all. There are models of what the area used to look like in its hey-day. Plus, there's a video with people talking about the railroad. Not big enough for a long visit but nice for people who may not know about the history or a trip down memory lane for those who do.

YES, I am giving this a 5 rating! And why, it holds wonderful memories of my childhood living at the beach. We as " the West family owned a cottage ( it's stil exist) with a view of the bay, pool and the amusement park. In that childs eyes were wonderful days spent looking for sharks teeth,swimming in the salt water pool and at night, the bright lights from the merry-go-round,the ferris wheel, the sounds of laughter from any direction. My parents took us to the Rod & Reel Club where we ate hard shell crabs,drank Coke-Cola,( a real treat) while our parents played slot machines. So for all of you that were unable to know Chesapeake Beach as I did, I'm sorry. You Missed a fantastic time,and oh what great memories. Sincerely, Joyce West Morgan

Nice staff, informative, good information about how important the railway was to the history of Chesapeake Beach. Even the little kids seemed to enjoy it.

Expected more, got less. Just a one room building with some artifacts like old time bathing suits, toys, and photos. Doesn't take a long time to go through this museum, fortunately there is no charge for this.

This is a nice, little museum to visit if you happen to be in the Chesapeake Beach area. Many artifacts and information about the railway that serviced Chesapeake Beach and of the Amusement Park that was once located here. The staff was able to answer most of our questions and were very pleasant - they really seem to enjoy their volunteer jobs here. Restaurants are near - though a little pricey. There is a McDonalds in the plaza on the roadway coming in. A good place to visit for an hour or so.

This nicely restored depot was donated to Calvert County by the Rod 'N' Reel Resort, in whose parking lot it sits. The depot is now a gem of local history and color, a small 3-room museum about the train that ran from DC to Chesapeake Beach from 1900 to 1935, when Chesapeake Beach had a boardwalk and ambitions to be another Atlantic City or Coney Island. It takes only half an hour to look at the interesting photos, postcards and artifacts that have been donated or found along the old RR right of way. The curators have done a good job, the local volunteers are really nice, and you'll learn that you're in a long line of visitors to CB's beaches, bars and boats.

Tiny volunteer Rail Road center is cute and obvious they pulled things together on a shoestring. Very interesting displays and video. Was nice to remember the trains. Again, nothing fancy but simple and obviously created by people who loved the old steam trains. Worth spending 30-45 minutes in between the more energetic attractions in CB...

Old broken down good idea. Nice tiki bar nearby.Nice area to walk around. Good photo spot.
