My husband and I finally had the chance to visit this small local winery. We have been eager to taste there ever since it opened, especially because they are located in the same town he grew up in. We have been to at least 60+ wineries and to compare to the rest the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The barn atmosphere gives a good old country feel. We came in on the weekend before Christmas and initially were the only two there. We weren't greeted immediately in fact we stood there waiting for someone to greet us. We were greeted by a woman finally and we weren't pleased with the tasting experience at all. The amount poured was barely enough to wet our palettes and she provided vague descriptions that barely engaged us in the wine. We attempted conversation, we were unsuccessful. We were so eager and willing to love this place, but were disappointed. Another couple came in who were greeted by a friendlier staff person (we were jealous immediately). They made it clear they were wine club members and we weren't sure if that is why they were treated so differently than us. We ultimately made a purchase, but had to wait 20 minutes for our wines (we were 2 out of the 4 people there!!). The wines were overpriced especially for that area and by the end the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths. It is a shame, we love wine, love to purchase, and love to talk about it. We immediately spread the word to our family/friends in the area about our experience. Hope they read reviews and attempt to make changes.
My favorite wine from Knob Hall is the Sweet Revenge, but about 2 months ago or a little less I made a purchase at wine and spirit in Abingdon Md. The Sweet Revenge was so watered down, and tasted like alcohol was just added it to it to make it taste like it had some in it. I kept this bottle, but i purchased another bottle it was the same way, so I took it back for a refund. I contacted Knob Hall by email and phone, but got no response.
Stopped here an hour ago on way home from vacation. Have visited a hundred plus wineries and never have I met a staff member to be so rude. The place was dark I could not read the sign. abruptly we were asked if we had an appointment. No I never thought we need one to buy wine. I was asked if I was there for the tastings I asked what does that mean? Meaning is it a scheduled tour? 3 tastings , 5 tastings, cost? Etc where questions in my mind. Instead hastily the person behind tasting counter rolled her eyes and said this is a winery You come to taste wine that is what you do! Mocking us in front of several people who put there heads down embarrassed for us. I never have been treated so unfriendly at a place of business in a small farm town. I might have spent 50.00 or 500.00 but after my customer service experience we turned and walked out. I see not everyone is nice in the world.
Lovely location and setting inside the bard. Sampled the sweeter wines they had and they were all delicious! Many wine options from whites, reds, dry and sweet. The theme inside the bard is adorable!
We stopped here on a whim on our way to DC - wanted to visit a winery and looked for a sign on the road. Not far off the interstate and a nice little winery. The Sales/Taste person was very friendly, knowledgeable and nice. She answered all our questions about the wine, telling us about the various grapes, wines etc as we tasted several different wines. We really enjoyed the "reds" and bought a bottle of "Jealous Mistress" to enjoy in our hotel in DC. It cost $5 for our tastings but this is refunded if you buy 2+ bottles of wine. PS - we definitely had our $5 worth.
