Go every year for the Bull and Oyster Roast. Yum. Wonderful scenic spot, told my now wife I loved her for the first time here.

Just went to a wedding at the plantation and it was spectacular. Staff and food outstanding. Ceremony was held under huge old pine trees that overlooked the Sassafras River. After the ceremony drinks and appetizers were served in the gardens and the reception was held in a big tent that connected to the original horse stables that are now used for serving food and restrooms. There is a single two mile lane road that you must travel to get to the plantation. There are a few pull over areas if another car is coming in a different direction. Just adds to the fun and excitement of visiting the plantation. If you have a reason to visit the plantation, you must go. The grounds and river are beautiful. You will feel like you have gone back in time and it is a great feeling.

This plantation is off the beaten path which is probably why its still standing. The grounds of the plantation are beautiful. The walking trails are great. The addition of a boat ramp for visiting by boat is really nice as it was the original way in which people came to the the site historically. The site has a lotus festival once a year and by the looks of it I can understand why. I have never seen so many lotus plants. It was amazing. The water views and scenery were spectacular. The only reason I can't give it a 5 is because of the house. While old on the outside, the inside was gutted over time and a member of the duponts who placed all new old features. She went around the world getting antiques and placing them in the house. It was interesting but unusual. A formerly 4 bedroom main part of the house had 2 bedrooms with 2 very 1960s bathrooms. A very 1960s kitchen is downstairs. The house was used as a rich person's retreat in the 1960s and is a bit confusing to the visitor expecting something older. I would recommend a visit as the grounds are really lovely.

We visited during the annual reenactment of a Revolutionary war battle on the plantation grounds and along . Combined with a tour of the restored 18th century manor house, this was a very educational and enjoyable experience. House tours are conducted from May through October, and special events can be enjoyed throughout the year. You can climb stairs to reach the roof top widow's walk and view spectacular scenery.
