This is a hidden gem I visited during a recent heritage day event with my daughter and some friends- lots of neat displays of local interest on families, canneries, and pearl button factories. Some agriculture equipment and even a buggy. Two lovely dollhouse displays of local homes, thrilled the kids. They have a big display about the local ballpark and the smithsonian is working with them on a project about that right now.Worth a stop in, especially if you are from the delmarva area- nice local place to learn our history.
We were shopping in this little village, and saw a sign by a parking lot that said "Museum Open". Hum...I had no listing for a museum so I was very curious. In the building behind a Main Street building we came across this little start up. The building was an old dealership garage that goes back to horse and buggy days, and as you walk in - there is a buggy! We were greeted by an eager gentleman who showed us around. The place is a mishmash, and clearly a work in progress. But enthusiasm is important. Highlights for us were a lot of photos of the village, including some interesting boats. (The river is navigable.) We were also impressed by a display with a mother of pearl button making machine and a photo of all the employees of a factory that was once nearby. There was a lot of memorabilia that would only be of interest to those harking from the area (I don't even have my own yearbooks so passed on these) but also many things that spoke to the changes that took place in the local economy. There is a sign on the door with posted hours- I think it was Thurs-Sat 11-2, or something close to that. The website is out of date- its talks about the coming museum, but its clearly already operating on an informal basis. I strongly encourage anyone passing through to go in and say hi.
