I think that the restaurant there is over rated. The food is mediocre at best. The best thing about the night was the company. The chef tried but ..
I am a 25 handicap player and this is a tough course even for my 12 handicap pal. Went as a foursome and had decided to use individual caddies. First for me, and certainly will not be the last. What a terrific experience, and more importantly at Bulle Rock. The course is very nice, with some terrific scenic holes. Walking with caddies made it even more enjoyable. The caddies are extremely helpful, and I actually shaved off about 5 strokes despite poor play. The important thing is to enjoy as they reminded me and which I did. I am hopeful to go back to play again someday. My caddie was a highschooler but he knew his stuff. Would have him caddy again.
treat yourself to a trip to bulle rock. great layout, superior conditions. staff is fantastic as soon as you pull up to the clubhouse. people are wondering if the course is worth $130. the whole experience here is worth the money. that's what your paying for, not just the course. i hired a caddie and in my opinion there is no other way to play this course. do yourself that favor, it's few and far between when you get the opportunity to play golf that way. Phenominal experience. i did not play very well today but smiled and had a great time all the way around the course. rough is penal, but the course is not. any handicap will have a great time here. btw, food and service was excellent too.
Was in Maryland on business but didn't want to miss this gem. I have played a ton of golf, but am still a 15. This place has a similar feel to Hazeltine. However, I would rate it a better golf course. Nearly every hole is unique and beautiful. The greens are fast and smooth. The fairways immaculate. The rough absolutely brutal. The staff is superb and VERY accommodating. This is TOUGH course. Because of the location (wooded, swampy) it is really wet. They have blowers on every green to keep them at least somewhat dry. I am a fast player and this track took about 30 min longer to play than normal. I have to imagine that if I weren't the first one out, it would be a 5 hour round (I played as a single in 2.5 hrs). Water, woods, elevation change, traps -- and you can play it super long from the tips or really manageable from the whites. Hit 'em straight!
Bulle Rock is the epitome of great golf, well conditioned, an interesting and varied layout, with homes bordering just one hole, upscale service and attention to detail. While expensive, it is worth every penny. It was convenient to I-95 as we were passing through, fortunately found it by using the Forelinksters.com guide to the better public golf courses.
We had a golf weekend here & every staff member at the place made you feel first class & went out of the way to make you feel at home. The course is tough but awesome views. We were there with a tourny and they gave us bag tags lockers and great service.
A beautiful, challenging, well maintained golf course. Conditions were pristine and the service was impeccable. The expansive practice area was a real bonus. Many other courses just do not have the real estate available. I was able to get a lot of bunker and chipping practice in before my rounds. It was definitely worth the 3 hours drive and overnight stay. I look forward to my group returning again in 2015.
Played Saturday & Sunday - Memorial Day weekend. course is in great shape. Two cautions: (1) for the ladies - there are no bathrooms on the course except at the turn (2) I made tee times a month in advance and received a confirmation email with the dates and times - got to the course on Saturday and there was no record of my tee time - pulled up the email to show the pro shop. To their credit they acknowledged the error and fit us in but VERIFY YOUR TEE TIMES even if you get an email from them. That email from them is obviously not always correct!!!!! Not sure why a course with this reputation is not using an automated reservation system.
Bulle Rock golf course is the best golf course in the State of Maryland--and you probably can add Delaware in also! Always in pristine condition, the course design is outstanding, with the rolling terrain providing a wide variety of hole types. The greens are fairly fast, but not overly so and they putt very true. The rough is thick and lush, so I strongly advise cutting back on distance and focusing on hitting fairways. Pick the tee box that allows you to do that. Enjoy!
Bulle Rock Golf Course is one of the most beautiful, challenging courses you'll ever come across. Pete Dye created a masterpiece in this tract. Bring your "A" game, try to enjoy the beauty even if your score isn't as pretty as you'd like. Remember that all greens are fast and break toward the Bay, and slow when putting back toward the Clubhouse. Keep it in play and have a hot putter and you'll score well here. Don't forget to come inside after your round and enjoy a cold drink. Ask Matt the bartender to make you one of his special Red Sangrias. My all time favorite golf course!
Bulle Rock will challenge every aspect of your game and require every club in your bag to be used over the course of the round. The course is gorgeous and always in perfect condition. Pace of play is usually good in terms of not waiting on every shot but you should expect five hour rounds because of the difficulty of the course. I make it up there three of four times a year from DC, which is about a 90 minute drive. It is worth the trip.
This was to be the pinnacle of our three days of golf in Maryland. After reading numerous reviews lauding Bulle Rock, we kept it for last in anticipation of what was to come.First off, the setting is indeed quite pretty, at first blush. Staff was very accommodating, the clubs were loaded promptly (and with a complimentary Bulle Rock bag tag), and we were off to the practice range. The range is quite a drive from the course itself, as its location was initially destined to be part of a second 18 holes. The economy - per the starter - took care of that. :)After a good overview from the starter - and his request that we only use the Bulle Rock divot repair tools that we were given (which worked exactly the same as any other tool) - we were off.The course is a typical Dye deign - thick rough, deep bunkers etc., but what struck me was the inordinate amount of dogleg holes, and the fact that NO hole was memorable. Usually a Dye course will have two or more holes that you remember for a really long time - not this one.It DOES, however, have very tame deer who show up quite often and make for a pleasant diversion.I also must agree with a previous reviewer and remark about the lack of twilight rates. There really is no reason to penalize the player who would like to play the course, but can not or will not shell out $130 for the pleasure. (I will take time now to once again agree with a previous review and state that for $130 this is a darn good $85 course). So, nothing really memorable for me. I don't really "get" the accolades - there are at least a half dozen Dye courses that stand out more than this one, and if you're golfing Maryland I would try Lake Presidential in Upper Marlboro.Just as difficult, less than half the price, and very interesting in both layout and topography.
I am an avid golfer and a member of a very popular and noted country club that hosts PGA and Senior tour events. Thus, I believe I know golf, golf courses, and appropriate value of courses all across the US.This course is rated as a Top 100 public course and while it is a very well maintained course, it does not have any signature holes, or anything unique or special to justify it rating. It is a good course and one that is worth playing, if in the area, but not at $130/round. I would rate this course as a $85/round course. Also, this is one of the few courses I have ever found that does not offer a twilight rate. It may be worth the money in the AM with perfect weather conditions, but believe the course is taking advantage of their Golf Digest recognition. Also, the beverage cart did not come by until the 8th hole, and while I was putting, elected to keep going rather than wait to see if I wanted something from the cart. Thus, for the money, the customer service could have been at a higher level.
I have the frequent player program so I play this course quite often. The course is always in immaculate condition. The greens and fairways are pristine. Bunkers are well maintained with plenty of sand in them. This is the kind of course that anyone can enjoy but it is more suitable for lower handicap players The restaurant serves great lunch at reasonable prices. The waitresses and bartenders are always pleasant and they provide great service.
I had lunch at Silks restaurant in December and it was very good. I had the ahi tuna steak salad and it was wonderful. The atmosphere is very pleasant, quiet and very comfortable and you get a great view of the golf course too from the restaurant, nice place.
