Nice trails and lots to see along them. Dress for the appropriate weather and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along your adventure.
Although its cold, its still great to walk the paths and get to the little beach. Where you can see the Bay Bridge. Even when we had the snow it was a sight. Beautiful, this is defiantly a one in a million kind of place.
My family and I visited Terrapin park and beach during the Christmas break in December 2014. The trip was definitely worth it -- we were lucky to visit on a sunny warm day and enjoyed the hike through the park and beach tremendously. Saw many wild birds...and a great sunset. You can see pictures and a slide show here:http://www.china-finds.com/travel/2015/01/terrapin-beach-beautiful-even-december/
I stumbled across this park and it is gorgeous! There are many trails around some marshy areas and good access to the bay. Glad I stopped. It can be a little hard to find but keep going through the industrial park and you will see it.
Lovely little park along waters edge that is quiet, clean and dog friendly! Parking is tricky but the experience is oh, so pleasant.
There are about twenty parking spots at this park, but now you need a county beach permit to park there. Otherwise you will get a parking ticket for $50 like I did.
Nice park for the trails, end of cross island bike trail. The beach area and water were not impressive. The water looked scummy enough that it turned us off from wanting to go in. I think if you're just looking to take in the view and picnic it's nice.I read the other older reviews about the porta potties and thought they must have improved by now. NO, the worst most disgusting thing I've ever seen. Holy cow Maryland, fix that!
Often trips across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge are thought of just a way to get to Ocean City, MD. Decided it was such a beautiful weekend, so we searched for parks we have never visited. Picked Terrapin Park. It has great trails, for bikers, hikers and bird watchers. Stunning views of the Bay Bridge from the shore. You may think when you put the address in your GPS, there is something wrong because it takes you into an business park, but be patient Terrapin Park in the midst of the business area. Well worth the trip, (be sure to prepare and have a trail map before you go, bring snacks and drinks, it's a no service park).
Terrapin Park provides a wonderful view of the Bay Bridge and a beach area for true relaxation. Terrapin Park is one end of the Cross Island Trail as well.A good staging area for the use of the Trail. 20 minutes from Annapolis...beach access....great views.wonderful place to picnic.Jay
this trail crosses over a main road way, so if you have younger children, you may want to limit how far you go on the trail, or walk your bikes a little.
Many visitors to this area often complain about the lack of public access to the Chesapeake Bay. They have good reason, as when you think of all the thousands of miles of shoreline amongst all of its tributaries, this waterway surprisingly has a minimal amount of beaches available to the general public.Well at least Tarrapin fills that gap and it's free. It really isn't that hard to find, and there is better signage now directing drivers to the park. The only draw back is that if you want to spend the day at the beach, a short hike is required to get there. Now the walk takes about 15 minutes, but if you are hauling coolers, umbrellas and other "stuff", then this trip will seem longer. Once you park your vehicle, you go on the main paved path. Shortly, you will see a gravel path off to your left. This is the trail to take to the beach. Once you get there you should be able to find a nice spot on the long albeit narrow stretch of sand. Even during Labor Day weekend, we could still find an area that was vacant so we could play in the water with our chocolate lab. There are a couple of port-a-pots available and plenty of garbage bins, though some lazy visitors still prefer to leave their messes on the beach. A shame. The views are great as the bay bridge serves as a backdrop for the open waters of the Chesapeake. It was definitely more buggy before hitting the beach, but you may want to bring along some spray just in case. Definitely a great place to relax and play with your dog if you have one.
It was ok but we had a hard time finding it. The signs were not that good. We walked a long way and still never saw the water. The bugs were huge and on the attack.
Nature trail which winds through the marsh, around a lake, and down the beach on the Bay. Great walking or jogging path.
It was too cold and windy to be a beach day, but we loved watching a heron and egrets fishing. They have blinds in which you can sit. There were enough walkers and joggers that I wouldn't have felt unsafe on a solo visit. Dogs are welcome if leashed.
It was a beautiful day, and we enjoyed a circular walk here down to the beach and then back to the parking lot. The sandy beach has no shade and no seating, so we sat on a log. We wished we had bathing suits, a beach umbrella and a couple of chairs. Moms and their kids were here and people throwing sticks for their dogs to swim out to retrieve and some couples walking along. The water was a nice temperature in April. The beach was relatively clean. A paved bicycle/jogging trail intersects the nature/beach trail.
