My husband and I first saw the artists from the Art of Fire at the Renaissance Fair in Crownsville as they did their glassblowing demonstration. We came and took lessons in glass blowing -- found it absolutely addictive. While it's not cheap, you learn to make truly beautiful objects that amaze everyone you know. The gallery they maintain in the barn/studio is terrific, with all sorts of glass things, and lovely objects from other artists as well, including ceramics and jewelry. It's kind of a one-stop Christmas shopping spot! It's a wonderful place to bring kids, as all the artists are ready to explain the process of glass blowing. There's usually someone blowing something and visitors can safely come close enough to really see what's happening: magic! Foster and Theda, the proprietors, and artists Tod and Josh and Bruce are warm and delightful people, as well as gifted artists. A visit to the Art of Fire is like entering a magical kingdom. Don't miss it!
A family owned and operated glass art business. Classes are available and there is a beautiful display in the shop of their work - for sale of course. Thea and her husband are very helpful. They recently made a duplicate/similar glass vase for me after I noticed that the one I had wanted to buy had a small flaw. And they can send your gift anywhere. It is on the ground level of a restored barn and very accessible. A lovely ride in the country.
We met the owners of Art of Fire at the Maryland RenFaire where they maintain a permanent booth. We have since been up to visit their studio. While they are off the beaten path a little, their work and that of their apprentices is exquisite. We have bought numerous pieces for ourselves (mostly Christmas ornaments) as well as gifts.
