I know that my expectations should be low when getting a massage at a hotel spa, but this one is at the Gaylord and was quite pricey, so I did hope for more than a below-average...I could have gotten the same quality at a chain service like Massage Envy. The masseuse essentially just rubbed lotion on me for 50 minutes...no real technique or skill. Wouldn't recommend this place...too costly for such a sub-par massage.
I have visited several world class spas at resorts around the country and this is near the top of my list!Services (massage and pedi) were great! Facility is very nice. View from coed relaxation room is lovely and sauna/steam/whirlpool/locker room are well-kept. Staff was extremely friendly.
I was at the hotel on business and I sent my wife to this spa for something to do while I was in meetings. This is her experience on how my money was not well spent. They only allow you to choose one color an don't do designs for your nails even though they charge double the price of other spas. My wife's nails were short to begin with and the stylist decides to cut them even shorter and then filed them down . what is there to file!!!!her nail was almost gone! so then she was filing her skin on her toe and making it bleed, my wife had to tell her to stop because apparently she couldn't differentiate between skin and nail. After finishing filing the stylist then chooses to use nail polish remover to clean the area around and over the cut, obviously alcohol and open wounds don't mix. Moving on to the manicure, she doesn't clean the nails up at all or push the cuticles back so after having your nails painted they look like there already grow out.! Once there don they don't even use nail dryer they just let them air dry, so in there rush to have to get paid one of my wife's nail got smudged. Over priced (20percent service charge added), terrible service, I would just skip this place all together. There's plenty of spas within a taxi ride that are half the price.
Visited the Gaylord National and Relache Spa for the first time recently. Spa facilities are top notch. The wet space was wonderful. Too many spas skimp in this area but the large steam room, large sauna, whirlpool and sitting area made for a nice relaxing experience to melt away the stress. There are two relaxation rooms....the relaxation waiting area which is pretty typical and then the relaxation area looking right out over the Potomac River is very unique with the great view. Go here after your massage. The massage itself was fantastic and the massage room very spacious with a tub and also looked out over the Potomac River and National Harbor. Quite the nice experience. I'm a local in Maryland and am glad to have discovered this wonderful place.
Five days on an intense business trip meant doing a little care for the soul -- I had a massage and a manicure. The spa area for the massage was top-notch: gorgeous waiting room with a beautiful view and a nice selection of teas and snacks. The massage was good -- not the best I've had but still very good. The nail/hair salon is across the hotel/convention hallway and it didnt match the plushness or elegance of the spa area. The manicure was fine, just not worth the $55 (including the tacked on service fee). The services are definitely VERY pricey and while I understand why the service fee is automatic, that doesn't always guarantee a quality experience. When you know the gratuity is coming to you, why should you work any harder?
Why should I pay $240.00 for facial?! My face are not made of gold... Pointless and useless... just by Clean&Clear for $2.50 and wash your face!
Had to pay $78 for a regular pedicure! I really don't mind paying almost $100 for a pedi if it was a spa pedi, but there really wasn't special about it.
My husband and I had a couple's massage. The staff was friendly, the spa was beautiful and had a nice relaxing room overlooking the Potomac River. There was also a nice dressing area, jacuzzi, shower facilities & amenities and sauna. So, if it was so nice, why am I giving the rating a poor? Well, the massage itself cost $290.00 for two people for 50 minutes...ok, I knew that. A little more than average, but not too bad for a 5 star hotel spa. However, they then put a 20% service charge on top of that, ok, I get that and am fine with it. I usually tip 20% anyway. But here is the clincher...when paying, I was asked if I wanted to put a tip of the bill. I said "oh, isn't there already a 20% service charge?" The clerk said "yes, but that is not a tip, the service charge is something the hotel chain charges" So, since I had a 15% off coupon, after feeling guilty I asked her to put on a 15% tip. So what does she do? She puts the tip on top of the service charge!!! I'm bad with math (my fault, I know) so I didn't figure it out until I got back to the room. Basically, I paid $53.00 for the service charge, then another $43.00 for a tip. So another $96.00 on top of the original $290.00. I just really feel ripped off. The massage wasn't even that good. I went in there with my back hurting and it still hurts.
I had a facial during my 4-day stay - it was fine but nothing special. What turned me off was the customer service at the front desk. They seemed to always be on the phone or too busy to acknowledge that you walked in the door. They add a 20% "service charge" to all services which is fine if that is what you would normally tip, but irritating if your service isn't up to par. It's a nice facility but it wasn't friendly.
The manicure and Pedicure was very cleanly and they did and excellent job, EXPENSIVE.... Did not allow for percentage off like stated on the website....The used individual packaged materials to make sure that everything was extremely clean.
I had a full body massage. It was very good and helped me sleep. TYhe spa was clean and inviting and the hot tub and steam was the best.
Mario the massage therapist. WOW. Best massage I have ever had, and I have probably had a hundred. Monere was the aesthetician that did my facial and she was incredibly thorough. After these two treatments, I was able to relax and start to enjoy my stay. I will say, however, that as the first appointment of the day, they did not seem prepared. The whirlpool had been drained for cleaning and was not yet ready by the time I left at noon. Upon arrival thirty minutes prior to my appointment time as instructed, staff was still arriving and the spa had not yet been readied for clients. Overall, however, neither was an issue. The staff and services still earned an A+!
The staff were super friendly and accomodating. I had a facial and a pedicure and would go back in a heartbeat!!
I went to this spa and got a few treatments. They are pricey but well worth it. You are pampered from beginning to end and they have a great waiting/after spa room. I believe if you are not staying at the hotel they give you 3 hours free parking at the spa.
Until just recently, I had never done a... spa... thing. My wife has, numerous times, but not me. However, I had an absolute blast.
