Earth treks climbing center is one of the biggest ive ever been to.It had sooo many different walls to test. My faviroute was wall 109.
This gym exceeded our expectations! I wish I lived closer - I would be there every day if I could! HIGHLY recommend this gym to ANYONE!
We've been there for birthday parties and really enjoyed it. We took some Scouts in recently - very safe and enjoyable outing. They learned alot and had a great time.
Let me preface by mentioning that I am actually a member at Earth Treks and absolutely love it for a variety of reasons all of which I will apply to visitors to our area... The staff is absolutely amazing and friendly; they would never make you feel like an outsider, regardless of if you are a first time climber or a seasoned veteran wanting to get a few climbs in while visiting the DC area. That being said, if you are a climber and you are visiting DC, you MUST come to Earth Treks as it is the largest indoor climbing gym in America! They change their routes on a monthly basis, have a huge bouldering area, strength training, classes... The list goes on!
Best climbing facility in the DC area. Tallest indoor walls in the area with an incredible variety of walls suitable for beginners and experts alike. The only complaint would be how busy it gets on the weekends. Parking can be crazy, but usually you don't have to wait too long to get started.
We took our kids for open climb, which was a good introduction to climbing. The only downside is that we had to pay about $30/kid for 3 climbs. The littlest kids got scared just a few feet off the ground, but they still counted that as one of their 3 climbs. I don't know if we could afford to make a regular habit of it. It seems to be more of a Millennial scene (and probably not a bad place to either meet someone or bring a date).
This is great for the day you planned to hike but it is raining. good family fun! great workout and very safe.
I've been to the Earth Treks in Columbia and Timonium but this one is better because it is so much bigger!! There are spaces for top roping, bouldering, and lead climbing. They have SO MANY classes that are super helpful. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
This was our first time rock climbing and we felt very comfortable. The instructors were very helpful and made sure you understood all the terminology and rope tying techniques. After the class you are allowed to return another day to become certified in belaying.
This is a large indoor climbing gym with a broad selection of routes for top-roping, lead-climbing, and bouldering. They also have a weights and aerobic area and a retail area that sells protection, climbing shoes, clothing and guidebooks. The only drawback to the place is that it tends to get very busy in the early evening, and since any route can be lead (and many are), the number of available routes for top-roping can be fewer than expected. Best to lead-climb, which means being solid at 5.10a or higher is a good idea. A great climbing resource in the flat-lands of suburban DC.
Nestled behind Marlo Furniture, you would never expect such a big indoor rock climbing center to be here. But it is, and it is a lot of fun for beginning or experienced climbers. The support from the staff is great and it seems very safe, as you are buckled in tightly as you climb. There is something for every level, too, so no matter how experienced you are, you will be challenged. It is great, too, for the beginner, as the staff spends the time to help you out. Great fun and good exercise for a rainy day!
I take my kids to Earth Treks whenever we want to feel like we're active outdoors people. Every time we go, the staff is friendly and they are very patient with my kids. I hate heights but I like Earthtreks
