We visit anytime we can! Great walking trails, history lessons as you go, quiet and serene. Our dogs go and stay leashed. Nice place for photos, as well.
Love to take my dog for walks on the trails when I'm in town! This place always feels safe and it's a great free trip to take kids or dogs
Its definitely a cool out of town spot in Salisbury. There is hiking trails that look pretty good though we were not there for that. We went specifically for the Beer festival they have. Generally we have gone for the wine festival for the past couple years but this was our first "beer" tastings there. We were pleasantly surprised with the quantity of vendors and home brewers. I was a bit skeptical of the 35$ price tag considering it a "local" event. But needless to say a lot of great breweries from around the country. Cool event for sure and would recommend. My only complaint is the lack of friendliness of the "door" keepers and ID checkers. Its as if there miserableness of having to work would make you think you are disturbing them from conversing with there co-workers. Its not only at the beer festival but I noticed this with wine festivals in years past. Are these people volunteers? I dont know ...BUT considering Salisbury is trying to be a more interesting town how bout having a better welcoming crew???? Other than that the EVENT was well done and I would go back.
I walked the Bell's Island trail with my German Shepherd. We were there for about an hour. The trails were, for the most part, very lovely. The abundant shade kept us cool on a warm muggy day, and there was plenty of squirrel and frog activity to amuse us. In most places the trail was very broad and easy to walk. There were lots of tree roots, though, so at times I had to be careful not to slip or trip on them.Unfortunately, aside from regular trimming in the few grassy areas, the trail did not appear to be under regular maintenance. There were low spots that flooded at high tide, so that my dog and I had to wade through ankle-deep water to get back to the trail head - my shoes and socks got thoroughly soaked. We also had to climb over a few downed trees that crossed the path. I ventured onto an overlook to view the river but the boards were rough and worn, and many of them looked as though they needed to be replaced. There was some trash in the water as well. And we passed some rough-hewn benches - a place where talks had been given, at some point? - that were rotting away where they stood, and definitely need to be cleaned up.They could do with wider bridges, as well. The bridges were barely wide enough for me and my dog to walk side by side, and we had trouble getting out of the way of the runners who came up behind us.Still, most of the walk was pleasant and peaceful, and I will be back again.
Had a LOVELY visit today at the Hall with a wonderful docent, dressed in the era, who gave our grandchildren and us a well educated tour of the home. She allowed the girls to touch and ask questions. (Ages 10 and 13) they loved their visit. We walked the fairly easy (I'm handicapped) walk around the pond. (1 mile) and fed the schools of bluegills.Nice bathrooms. take your own food & drink for a nice picnic at their tables.
Great place for a dog walk with 5 miles of interconnected trails through the woods. Narrative signs describe what was there early on and what you are presently looking at. Saw several osprey nests and great flowering plants.
They have events such as wine tasting here but I don't drink any way and never care for the busy scene... however the nature of the walks are great and you can mix it up between woods, water scenes, and open spaces... good for dogs and most owners seem to keep it clean by picking up so not too worrisome to step into stuff.
Take the dogs for a walk in the park. Quiet, peaceful, great for all seasons. Well marked trails makes it difficult to get lost.
Good hiking trails that are just the right length for kids. Also, good birding spot. 3 different environments with pond, marsh and woodland.
The Park is a lovely area for walks, meditation, couples just enjoying the scenery.Children can run freely and there is ample parking available. The corn fields are nearby , so they add to the country feel.
This is a great place to wander for the day. There are numerous walking trails and pets are allowed. Take a picnic lunch and hang out. They have wonderful programs all year long and a great Wine Festival in the Fall.
On a sunny day a stroll through Pemberton Historical Park is the ticket to natures beauty, and all its tranquility.
Very nice hiking trails off of the beaten path that give access to beautiful river views. You can plan a whole day hiking here and not get bored.
While the historic buildings were not open when we visited, we had the pleasure of walking several of the trails, and riding our tandem bicycle on the equestrian trail (no bikes on most of the trails). It is a gorgeous area, and a wonderful summer outing. Based on the buildings, and the care taken with the (period style) fencing and other outdoor structures, I have every reason to believe that it would be a good cultural experience when open indoors, as well. Outdoor signage is good, telling you a bit about the history of the place. A trail map is located outside the main building. In June, you will be rewarded with turtles almost beyond count. The logs in the pond by the equestrian trail were covered in turtles. Approach very quietly! For a fuller outdoor experience, combine this with the Trap Pond State Park (Cypress Swamp) a few miles north of here, just across the Delaware border, for a full day outing.
Besides the events that are held here, which are typically very well prepared, this is a very peaceful place to relax, learn about some local history, let the children run around and burn off some energy and just relax. Also like to do some photography and reading on those warm summer days.
