I wanted to something special for my husband's birthday and I knew he always wanted to see Antietam. I enjoy guided tours and I thought this would be an interesting way to see the sights. We brought the whole family including school aged children. Our tour guide, Bill, was very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing all he knew. The tour lasted about 2 1/2 hours. We opted for the Cornfield Avenue tour because I didn't think the kids' attention span would last 4 hours to get the complete tour including the lunch. Everyone got a lot out of the day.
Bonnymeed Farm provides a fantastic tour in an Amish style wagon drawn by a Hackney horse of Antietam Battlefield. "Bill" our historian/driver gave a wonderful commentary that made all of us feel like we were experiencing the battle from horseback. The tour lasts about 4 hours, covers the entire battlefield, farms and battle and includes an authentic picnic lunch of 1862 which was wonderful and delicious. We all left feeling this was the highlight of the weekend.A real 10!
We took this tour in August and were very impressed. Clip-clopping along in an Amish carriage pulled by old Buzz was a beautiful way to spend half a day. Bill was a really knowledgeable tour guide and Laurie made us a delicious civil war period picnic with fried chicken, ham biscuits, corn oysters and shoo-fly pie. There was also hard-tack which we didn't develop a taste for.If you want a memorable day and are going to Antietam, don't miss this tour.
