There is enough variety here for all ages and interests. From the fossil history to the touch tanks, vintage boats and motors to the history of the Chesapeake Bay and the watermen who work here, you can't beat this museum. Many events throughout the year for people of all ages. And take the tour of the real Drum Point lighthouse -kids especially love that and the live otters. Any day is good, some are free so check them out on the web.
The light was wonderful and we enjoyed photographing it. We arrived there just as the museum was closing, so we were unable to get in. We will, hopefully, get back so that we can enjoy that as well.
Live in the are for 5 years. We sponsors the museum and visit it few time monthly. The Lighthouse is beautiful. Prices are nice and you also get to visit Solomon Island.
Coming here has become a yearly tradition with my family when we stay in Maryland. The Drum Point Lighthouse is very cool, and we always end the trip with the cruise. Great place and informative!
I am a local and have been a member of CMM for 9 years. It is intimate but extremely well operated. Volunteers are passionate, staff is friendly and helpful, management is continually looking for ways to improve. Recently the aquarium has been renovated and is a great intro to local ecology. Check out the oyster bed. There is an excellent kids room with hands on exhibits. The programs here are exceptional. I have done everything from adult programs to Sea Squirts (for toddlers) and the programming is universally well executed, interesting, and educational.
We signed-up for this cruise and never thought it would amount to very much other then a boat ride...boy were we wrong! It was a converted skipjack (motorized) and we had a great tour-guide who happened to be an expert on the War of 1812. throughout the cruise, we were offered fact after fact about the huge role so. MD and particularly the Solomons area and Patuxent river played in that War. Be prepared for a real treat!
We particularly enjoyed the guided tour of Drum Point Lighthouse - especially as we were the only ones on the tour ! Great personal service !
The Calvert Museum and light house is an exceptional site to see while visiting Solomon's. We had thought we'd catch it in the morning and visit something else in the afternoon. Alas, there's so much to see that we spent the day there. And we're going back again to see more at the museum. The outside exhibits will capture your fascination and attention for quite awhile. The boat tour is well worth the cost (though it doesn't run through the winter months, ceasing operations at the end of October). By all means, plan to spend some enjoyable educational time at this excellent venue!
Excellent fossil collection and geologic history lesson. Good lesson on the biodiversity of the bay, including aquarium specimens. Separate exhibit on the life cycle of a skate. Nice mini wetland ecosystem. All with the ability for kids to touch (but not everything).
A nice place to visit while in Solomon's Island!! Great place to learn about the history of Solomon's as well as educating young and old about the Chesapeake Bay and its treasures. They also host a wonderful line up of summer concerts in their Pavilion as well as hosting the Pax River Appreciation Days arts event-a must in the early fall!! A big Fan!!
Very nice local, interactive museum, aquarium and lighthouse. Great fun for children. Brand new aquariums installed. Boat and lighthouse tours available.
We were not sure if a visit to this museum would be worthwhile, but we were pleasantly supried. The exhibits are well laid out and present much good history about the area and it's role in the war of 1812. We only wish we had allowed more time to see it. A good value for the money and good for families. V
The museum and lighthouse were very nice to visit. tourists were orderly and gift shop prices were a bit steep on some of the more interesting items so I passed them by. Maryland history books were aplenty and their displays were thoughtfully designed. A very pleasant experience and we will go again sometime.
Stopped to see lighthouse but also toured museum. Great exhibit on oystering history and live skate fish and stingrays. Also went on boatride. Fun Day!
only went to view the lighthouse and to shop in the lighthouse store. very nice lighthouse and beautiful surroundings
