We stopped with our 5 y/o on our way to visit my sister for thanksgiving. I live in an orchard in NY but somehow forgot to bring apples with me. In any event, in the middle of a snowstorm, Catoctin Mountain Orchard appeared and I knew I had to stop. For $20 I bought homemade (or custom packaged) caramel corn, a REAL apple dumpling and 1/2 bushel of Cortland apples. The apples were truly wonderful. The pie I made with them was quite the hit at dinner. The only reason I didn't give 5/5 rating was because I felt the apples were overpriced. Perhaps I'm just spoiled from growing my own. We will definitely stop again.

This is the place for apples, also for peaches, kale and a variety of other products. Everything is great in season, apples are great year round as they can be well stored year round. They also have baked goods and a variety of other products like apple cider, apple butter and so forth. Apple varieties ripen at different times so call ahead to find out when your favorite variety will be at its just picked freshest. If you aren't familiar with a type of apple the staff will be happy to give you a free sample of anything on the spot. They can also give you expert advice on how to store your produce. I drop in whenever I'm on route 15, several times a year.

I always look forward to fall for fresh picked apples. My favorite apple is the Cortland but not everyone grows or carries them. I called the orchard early in the week and asked them if they would have any ready for purchase by the weekend. The gentleman assured me that they were just starting to pick them and they would be in stock. Stopped by on Saturday and sure enough they had them! Bought half a bushel. Also asked about freestone peaches as I don't like cling peaches for munching. The woman said all of their peaches are freestone so got some of them also. Love my fresh fruit. Thanks Catoctin Mountain Orchard.

Stopped by for some peaches. As usual they were very good but the staff is not at all friendly, the jellys come from McCutcheons but carry a Catoctin Orchard label, but the place is busy due to being right on rte 15. There is another orchard off the beaten path at I believe the next ext which has just as good as a selection of peaches and apples at about a 1/3 pf the price.

The previous two reviews by two enraged chicks made me laugh. I have visited here at least twice a year for the past ten years. Yes, prices seem high and yes it is out in the country on a farm and bugs can fly into the store. Some of the older sales people are gruff and direct, but hardly rude. Please look carefully at all your choices BEFORE you make your purchases. Usually the fruit offerings are good, and the veggies are often fresh, and right out of the farm fields. Jams and other pickles or veggies or fruits in glass jars are excellent choices. Often I buy 6 or 8 glass jars of cherry jam to use for incidental, small Christmas gifts. They have great pumpkins of all sizes in the pre-Halloween season. In the fall they offer free samples of ice cold apple cider and small Winesap apples to visiting customers. And about the rudeness -> smile and the World smiles with you. So have fun and drink some cider, and above all smile!!!!!

The people here are SO RUDE! The fruit has bugs on it and the everything is overpriced! I will never go back again! This was my second trip and they were just as rude this time. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Go to Pryors Orchard instead.

I've been here twice and both times the women working there were rude. Ask a question, you get a short, rude response. There is nothing great about the produce either. Everything I bought spoiled in a day or so and it was expensive. I also bought a pie, pies are supposed to be their specialty. Um, no! We tried it when we got home and the crust tasted like it had been frozen and re-frozen several times. The filling was awful, and it was $15 for a very small pie! No plans to go back here and I would recommend anyone else look for another orchard nearby, there are a few.

Yesterday, Thursday, April 3, 2014, I stopped by Catoctin Mountain Orchard and it was closed. It reopens on May 1, 2014. I live in Thurmont so it wasn't out of my way but I don't want someone to travel there from somewhere farther away and be upset.

Let me start out by stating that I live in San Antonio, Texas, and that my wife and I first visited Catoctin Mountain Orchard almost 40 years ago when it was tiny and cheap. It is neither today, but it remains the best store of its kind I've ever been to, and my wife and I regularly make pilgrimages to buy their products (mostly apple butter which is outstanding). When we run out, we even go to their website and order what we need. I love their apple cider (but can't take it home because of the distances involved), their preserves, their chow chow, their pickles ... the list goes on and on. It distresses me to pay almost $6 for what I remember being less than a dollar, but that was when we lived in the Washington, DC, area years ago and the U.S. House of Representatives was still run by sane people. Go there if you're en route to/from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It's worth the cost.

We had been on the road for several days, when the signs for this Orchard reached out and grabbed us! Once we walked in, the amazing smells of all the fruit engulfed us! There was a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to choose from. They also had a room full of jellies, jams, and preserves. We bought way too much and ended up giving some away. BUT, we enjoyed every single bite! My Sis buys fruit here on a regular basis!

My sister and I decided to stop by this Farmer's Market to check out what goodies we might find. The first thing we noticed was the delicious smell of fruit and pies when we walked inside the door. Now we're Virginia girls, but I'll tell you what, this orchard grows some mighty fine applies along with many other fruits and vegetables. What struck me were two things -- the variety and the quality of the produce. I only wish we lived closer so that we could take advantage of all the offerings of this wonderful market. In addition to the freshly picked harvest, the store also had many other goodies such as freshly baked pies and treats, jams and jellies, candy and many other delights. The prices tend to be on the higher side, but -- if you're looking for a certain kind of apple or just want to indulge in the fresh fruits of the season, I recommend you make this a stop on your travels through Maryland's Route 15 countryside.

This is my favorite orchard store for a reason. Great produce. Convenient. Pick-your own. Cider. Apple butter. Fresh baked pies.

The orchard is a great place for just enjoying the scenery of the area. The strawberries that we picked were AWESOME as well!! :)

Very expensive and nothing special in terms of quality. Their jams and jellies were obviously made by McCutchons in Frederick and private labelled and more money. Just go to the factory store.

Stumbled upon this place a few yrs ago during a trip to a pumpkin patch (Crumlin Farms)in Frederick County. The farm happened to be selling individual size bottle of fresh cider from this orchard. It was soooo good we had to check it out for ourselves. Have bought pies, fruit, jams etc and am never dissapointed
