You wouldn't believe the number of folks who either live in the greater Annapolis area or visit the area yet don't stop in St. Mary's just to see its splendor. The site was a gift to the church by Charles Carroll, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, who had a house right next door, rather than transferring the property to his family as he was concerned that the property would pass into the hands of protestants. This is a beautiful structure and is full of history. Come see for yourself, for FREE.

St. Mary's Church is a truly beautiful church. The inside is an inspiration to the faithful. I loved the old world charm of it.
The grounds surrounding the church are beautifully manicured. There is a garden sanctuary just outside the side entrance to the church which is worth a pause. There is a cemetery behind the John Carroll House that was closed the day we attended mass. The church itself with its grand altar and statuary was very impressive. I understand a new organ will be dedicated soon. The leader of song had a great voice accompanied by a pianist. The site dates back to the 1800's. Glad we made this a stop.
If you are a visitor to Annapolis you should include this as one of your "must see". items. This cathedral sits on the grounds of the only Catholic signers of the Declaration of indipendance. Charles Carrol of Carrolton. His home has been restored and is available for touring. The property sits on the waters edge of Spa Creek.
The architecture is reminiscent of European catherals, vaulted ceilings, stained glass, transcendent
The interior and stained glass windows were awesome. The altar is breath taking too. It is only a short walk from the main drag.
Everyone is friendly. Priests are great. The church is so beautiful, especially for a wedding or during the holiday season
When I visited St. Mary's with a Catholic friend, I was struck by the beauty of the meditation gardens as well as the ethereal artistry of the church's interior. Architecturally stunning, the interior ceiling is painted to resemble a night sky with sparkling stars, contrasting with the pale yellow pillars and Gothic chevet vaulting. A must see if you love old buildings and Gothic architecture as much as I do!
This is at the top of the main drag through time. It's a beautiful church in a tasteful setting in the midst of an awesome historic town. The church is a very nice one; stately and old-ish (it's America and nothing is really OLD!). But it's surely worth a look at the very least and, if you've a mind to, a great place to worship. Truly, on Christmas Eve it's a visual splendor with a wonderful service. Then, off you go...down the street into town to see the old buildings, eat a good drink or dinner and look at the boat in the harbor and Ego Alley.
Beautiful historic Catholic church with gorgeous stained glass windows. I have attended some concerts and a wedding here. if you enjoy historic churches, you will like to see this.
