We love visiting Jonas Green State Park. This past weekend we took our dogs to the park to walk along the beach. If you look across the river you can see downtown Annapolis and the Naval Academy. There were families there who were picnicing and fishing. You can fish from the rocks or from the old bridge/fishing pier. Also, from Memorial Day to Labor Day you can rent Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks. We went back the next day to do the SUP, which was $20 per board. The weather was great and so was the stand that rented the equipment. My only suggestion would be if you're new to it, you may want to go when they first open (10am) so that you don't get too much wake from the boats on the river.
It was actually quite nice to come here to end our day trip to Annapolis. Lots of little groups of families either fishing or having picnics. Not as big of a place as I thought but maybe it's cause we only went to the trail on the left? not sure. Either way, would totally come back and bring some chairs/food with us. (+: free parking, near the water, -: can't go into the water)
Actually it's a great place to fish - former bridge serves as wonderful fishing pier. This small park has restroom facilities and a great place to view sunrise and sunset - any time of the year.
Often times visitors wonder why with all the waterways around this area, there is so little public access. So much of the waterfront is privately owned so there are only several places in the Annapolis area open to visitors....Jonas Park is one of them. The plus is that many folks don't know about this place so you can often enjoy the area without crowds. Launch a kayak, fish, or just enjoy the view. Didn't bring food? The Severn Inn is across the street. Pricey, but sit in the bar and enjoy some of the less expensive pub fare.
My husband and I took our dog there and watched the sun set. The entry was free and we had a good time playing with our dog along the shoreline. It was nicely kept and there were nice bathrooms as well. Although the sun didn't set directly over the bay, the view was still pretty. Although there were many people there, it didn't seem crowded at all.
Great place to picnic with beautiful views & real bathrooms (not port a potties!) Also access for kayak/canoes.
The park has ample parking. There is a fishing pier and a beach area for fishing and launching boats. Swimming is prohibited. The grounds are kept very nice. The park also is a trail head for the Baltimore Annapolis Rail Trail. When you leave the park by kayak you may hug either side of the Severn River shoreline. We chose to cross the Severn to paddle into historic Annapolis. The speed boat traffic was limited crossing the channel by the bridge. This is open water and experienced 2-3 foot waves and also had to prepare for boat wake. Made this paddle with intermediate kaykers, ages 13 & 11. It is a great park to picnic as well with beautiful views.
This is a great little park at the base of the Naval Academy Bridge. It's great for picnicking, watching sailboats and the sunset.
One of the limited places in Annapolis with public water/fishing access. Recently renovated with big fishing pier under the Severn River bridge. Great view of Naval Academy across river, and gorgeous view of Severn River, and Chesapeake Bay in the distance. Great for sunrises, and picnics. Dogs are welcome. Not big enough for biking or running, but there is one path for walking, but not very long. Small but lovely park.
I believe this is the Naval Academy bridge (sorry I'm from California). This one was taken approximately 0530 AM and the temperature was a killer. Anyway, I love the scenery. There's a restaurant I believe. I'm sorry I can't give detailed about the place, but what I can tell is that this is a nice place to relax and breath through fresh air, watch the blue sky during daytime, and see some kayakers paddling.
