If you have a few minutes, you really ought to stop in and take a look at the library. I couldn't get a photo that would do it justice, but the stacks are quite impressive and the spiral staircase nearby is very cool.
I had a friend whose child got married in this fabulous place. It is a historic building, with a wonderful and beautiful book collection, lovely furnishings.....just a charming place.
This is one of the loveliest libraries I have ever seen. Do not miss it. In fact, you can bring your work and use the desks there to catch up on office matters. I recommend bringing your own hot spot for internet connection if you need the internet. You cannot go up to stroll through the books on the other floors, which is a shame, but just spending time in this heavenly library is a joy. I have had the pleasure of doing work there on several days for a few hours.
The museum (Peabody) was spectacular with all the skeletons especially the dinosaurs. very impressive!
once again if you like history...you have come to the right city...All of our land marks, museums, parks, inner harbor, resturants, are worth visiting in Baltimore
It sure is a great relaxing time spent in the library even if you simply admire the architecture, spiral staircase and browsing the books. If nothing else, simply being there and the esthetics is very pleasing.
I love old books and library stacks so stepping in to this place was like visiting a Gothic cathedral in Europe. The smell of old binding, the stained glass.. love it. I was sad to hear you could not go into the stacks. I can absolutely understand that. I wanted to do a little research for a paper I was working on, and it was clear that the librarians liked books more than people looking at books. They were very put off by my request and eventually did let me look at a book, but it was very stressful for them.
We visited Peabody Library, it's not a traditional library where you can check out books, but there are students studying and old books lining the walls. Downstairs, concerts are held. Sometimes there are free ones as well. Worth a stop, it's one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.
JMJ Reminded me of Trinity Library in Dublin..nice to see the USA has such classy places. Check on what the exhibit is before you go and spend time getting educated.
A group of us went to the Peabody to view the display on fakes and forgeries and saw the library. Our curator was excellent and gave us a wonderful slide show on many manuscripts and autographs that were fake. I had never been there before- the building is just beautiful and would make a perfect site for a wedding!
Amazing library to see. Open center area with5-6 floors of books visible from the open area. It's free and just around the corner from the Walters Art Museum. Stop in and take a look. It will only take a few minutes and you won;t be disappointed!
We attended a wedding held at the library and it was absolutely stunning. The surroundings are as if you are in a Harry Potter movie. Large and luxurious bookshelves, marble floors, and the echo of your voice travels forever. Very unique and wonderful event. I would recommend a wedding or major event here.
Worth a short stop just to see the library - a striking room. Also saw small exhibit there that was just OK
A very special place, stacked top to bottom with books (many rare)--like a walk back through history. Not your traditional tourist attraction, but well worth the visit!
There really isn't a more beautiful library around. Although the entrance is quite ordinary, the library itself is breath-taking! A definite must see!
