Beautiful water lily pond, peacefull tranquillity, perfect to find a seat in the shade and read. Excellent open air restaurant for lunch.
This place is a little oasis in the town. Do make time to visit, it's free and really well done. The bonsai are fantastic.
My wife and I spent a very enjoyable hour strolling round this amazing garden in the centre of Stellenbosch. On a hot, sunny day the opportunity to walk along shaded paths between large trees and shrubs or to sit in the shade close to a bubbling fountain was very relaxing.Highlights were the amazing lily pads and the display of bonsai trees.
Well kept gardens and awesome huge lillipads. There is a restaurant but we didn't eat there. We probably spent about 15 minutes wandering around and there wasn't much else to do with our time. Entry is free though and it is nice to walk around if the weather is good.
John dunnwoody gave us an excellent twolus hour tour all good make sure you give plenty of time for this garden as there is plenty to see
The Katjiepiering (the Afrikaans word for "gardenia") restaurant serves light meals and is situated in the middle of the stunning botanical gardens under the shade of the trees, in a quiet corner of Stellenbosch. The meals are light and refreshing, the service good, and the prices very reasonable. Higly recommended for a light meal or coffee/tea.
A favourite place that never disappoints. The gardens are immaculate and although just an average size city block, as you wander down the inviting paths you encounter the most incredible diversity. From manicured lawns, to tumbling aloes and thorn bushes, then into the deep forest of enormous trees and lush undergrowth, round the corner and you are in a herb garden then over the little bridge and you pass the quaint restaurant Katjiepiering nestled in the sky high bamboo forest, another inviting path leads you past giant redwoods before you come face to face with the sweet smelling rose garden. Just beyond that you're lured into the dense and magically overgrown fern garden and then out the other side where you face giant lily pads basking in the cool waters in the full sun. Pass the green houses and through the little gift shop are the bonsais. We spent hours there. Fascinated and refreshed. Its good for the soul. Plenty of parking in the municipal area behind, although a little pricy at R30. But the gardens are free to enter. The service at the restaurant it excellent and food is generous, fresh and delicious.
If you are here in Northern hemisphere winter this is a must, not huge, very interesting, delightful staff. Do not miss the Waterlillies, fantastic! Plant houses can be visited by request at the shop. The shop is a pleasure to visit and well staffed. In the middle of the gardens a very pleasant cafe/restaurant.A place to slip back into as time allows. A real delight.
If you want a good meal, reasonably priced, than head for the Botanical Garden in Stellenbosch. It is within walking distance from the heart of the town and offers superb outdoor seating under huge trees. The meal was delicious (my wife had Babotie and I had Hake). Service was good and the peace felt in the botanical garden well worth a visit.
A must even if you are not interested in plants.A cool peaceful haven in the centre of town which is undergoing a great upgrade.
Excellent place to just relax, walk around and enjoy nature. Great variety of plants, easy to navigate around.
As a local I have threatened to visit the gardens for years and eventually did so in December. OMW what a beautiful place in the middle of town!! The gardens are very well kept and in the middle is a perfect spot for breakfast or lunch. Will definitely be back in autumn to see how the plants have changed.
Free! I especially liked the hidden gems so eloquently hidden around every corner. I really loved the rock wall water feature.I reccomend this to anyone who would like to spend time in Stellenbosch for under budget
Looking for a secret hideaway in the middle of the bustling student town of Stellenbosch?Beautiful, well maintained mix of landscaping, art and shops, this is one of my favorite (and free) places to rest and restore.
The Botanical Garden is a paradise in the middle of town and is a perfect place to spend a quiet hour strolling around. The cafe is an added delight for lunch or for coffee and cake. Don't miss it!
