Peter was a very good tour guide. He took us through Soweto and some key areas of Johannesburg. He knew the history well, provided us with a lot of information and was very professional in providing his services. I would highly recommend anyone to use his services.Janet T, USA
I booked with Msahaba several months prior to the date of the tour. The day before Peter calls to tell me that 2 other people want to join my private tour. I was on the way back from timbavati reserve and had poor reception and did not need others in the shuttle to hear our conversation. I told Peter verbally that it might be ok, but then texted immediately after saying I was uncomfortable as i was booked as a private tour and I wanted to do very specific things not on the beaten path like visit a witch doctor. He sent me a text back and said "I found someone, it's fine". At this point I began to be uncomfortable as all reviews were for Peter directly. I phoned the guesthouse that figured out a tour for me - I only had one day in Johannesburg and did much research to find Mashaba to get what I was looking for. I was very disappointed by the tour I did receive - the guy was nice but didn't not understand the type of tour I wanted. I wish things worked out for this tour as Peter's communication before hand was fast and professional but the call the day before with changes to pre-existing plans and the way it was handled was not professional.
Contacted Peter after reading a positive review on this sight-wow what a fantastic recommendation. My kids (19 and 13) were up from Cape Town to visit family-flew in that morning and drove straight to the Apartheid museum to meet Peter. Were able to leave our rental car there and then off on a memorable tour-something my American born kids and I won't forget. Peter's knowledge is expansive and his kind/warm manner of story telling made the experience even more enjoyable. His ability to discuss the past -without pointing fingers also helped me reconcile the past ills of someone who grew up as a privilege white in South Africa under Apartheid(he did joke that the two towers shown above where supply MY house with power in the 60's and 70's-while the poor folk in Soweto could only look at them-but not derive benefit from them). Although Soweto is a much changed place after the fall of Apartheid- there are still folks living in tin shanties. Vilakazi Street where Mandela's house is on -is a bit commercialized but should be seen- as well as the Hector Peterson Museum
Peter was recommended by the guesthouse I stayed at while in Johannesburg. The full day tour of Johannesburg & Soweto was simply amazing. My mom, aunt and I were delighted with the service we received. Arranging the tour was easy as I emailed Peter directly a couple months before our arrival. The day of the tour he picked us up at our guesthouse on time and we ventured out to all of the places on our list and more. Knowledgeable, friendly no question is too big or small. I would recommend his services to anyone. You will not be disappointed!
We spent two full days with Peter-1 and 2 December, 2014. We were a family group of two adults and two teenagers. On day one we did his full day city tour including Soweto and the Apartheid Museum . It was excellent. Peter's knowledge was outstanding. He also assisted us in getting settled into South Africa by finding a secure ATM and supermarket etc.On day 2 we requested a tour of the Anne Van Dyk Cheetah Conservation Park outside of the city. He was happy to accomodate this request and it was done very professionally.Peter was efficient and reliable . He collected and dropped us off at our Guesthouse in Kempton Park .We would highly recommend him.

My family and myself (7 people) spent 4 days in Johannesburg early July this year. Peter Mashaba picked us up at the airport and spent the next 4 days with us, tlll he took us back to the airport. He took us to Soweto, the Apartheid Museum, Oscar Pieterson Museum, the caves where you can see the very first hominid fossil, fine typical and very classy restaurants. It was a wonderful experience. The best of it is the warmth and friendliness of Peter and his knowledge of Johannesburg and its surroundings. Thank you, Peter.
I want to thank Peter Mashaba for the fantastic, friendly, informational tour he gave to my guests and myself. He took us to Soweto showing and explaining many interesting sites between our home and Soweto. Once in Soweto he explained to the three of us all about the history and sites. It was so much more than you could get from a guide book or bus tour. We went in his lovely clean and comtfortable vehicle. We also had a delicious meal at the resturant he took us to in Soweto with some great entertainment. My guests were from Berlin and not totally comfortable with english (and I do not speak german) but they found Peter so clear that they understood his information and thoroughly enjoyed his company and tours. When I was busy with some volunteer work Peter took my family/guests to the Lion and Rhino Park for the day. They had an amazing experiece with him. Thank you again Peter and I will certainly continue to take tours with you and bring guests from various countries. Cheers, Heidi ( the Canadian ) and Birgit and Wolfgang (the Germans) Sept. 2014
Loved the personal tour with Peter Mashaba around Soweto.Good to have a local show you the places you should see. Great service and even tried the Hudu "intestines" for lunch at Sakhumzi Restaurant on Vilikazi Street.Excellent visits to the Hector Peterson and Apartheid Museum included.A superb tour of the Soweto Township with a local South African.
Peter took us on an very interesting tour of Soweto. He showed us as much as possible in the short time we had and at all times we felt safe. He is a true gentleman and gave us so much information. I highly recommend him.
Our travel agent did not want us to stay in Johannesburg, he said it was not safe. We booked Peter Mashaba who gave us an amazing in depth tour of J/burg city, Soweto and Apartheid Museum full day tour. We felt safe and are glad we did not listen to our travel agent. J/burg is such an interesting city and Peter made it more interesting with his unbiased first hand knowledge. Very professional and would advise anyone to book with Mashaba tours. We had an awesome day and wished we had stayed longer.
I had a chance to take a weekend tour to Soweto while working in Johannesburg. I organized a tour with Peter at very short notice and would like to mention that the communication (phone, email) was very precise and clear. The tour in itself was excellent, with regards to scheduling, professionalism and a great chat all around! I would definitely recommend Mashaba Tours and Transfers for anyone who wants reliable service.
It's true! For tours of Johannesburg, Soweto and Pretoria, wildlife trips, transfers, flexibility, efficiency, and extraordinary knowledge, Peter from Mashaba Tours is fantastic!
Really enjoyed our Soweto tour with Peter. Fascinating insight to what happened and where during the apartheid years. But also a chance to see how life has moved on for some - millionaire homes a short distance from the tin shacks that are still erected by people migrating towards the city. We went into one of the shacks - no electricity and a communal tap - and talked to the owner. A wake-up call for our children, who back home are obsessed by the gadgets. Peter answered all our questions. Recommend going to the Apartheid Museum first to understand the context.
I have used Peter's services for over 10 years, and have recommended countless international and local guests. Peter is friendly, accommodating, trustworthy, very knowledgeable of Joburg and Soweto and most of all, reliable. Safety of guests is always a top consideration for Peter, and his knowledge of the city makes him a better choice than a larger operator. I always enjoy my interaction with Peter, and my guests do too.
